@NorCalWayfarer: which did they prefer for your wedding?

I decided by which had the better price. For our wedding the online was more popular so I had more on the Amazon registry. And there were some overlap. I'd occasionally go on to check what was purchased...ahem..I mean manage the list.

I did BBB and Amazon and found that it was easier to have the more obscure items on Amazon and the more traditional items on BBB. Basically I figured people would use a coupon whenever they could, especially for the more expensive things, so that all went on the BBB registry, and things like the diaper pail liner, stainless steel bowl, etc, went on the Amazon registry.

I registered at Babies'r'us and Amazon, and intentionally overlapped some of the larger items. My theory was that if we received duplicates {assuming I missed deleting it}, I would return it to the brick and mortar store and use the credit towards something else from my registry.

@MUI831: Exactly. I didn't want to deal with mailing things back, so BRU was my go to return spot. We received so many gifts that we used most of the return credits towards diapers for months. Win-win!

If something was avail at both, I put it on the real store registry because a lot of people seemed to avoid ordering online.

I did this with Babies R Us and Amazon. At first, I chose which item went on which registry based on lowest price, so there ended up being more on the Amazon list. After people actually started making purchases though, it became clear that everyone was going to Babies R Us. I got complaints from relatives that my list was too short! So I ended up switching as many items as possible from the Amazon registry to the Babies R Us one.
