So - I am about to change jobs and increase my commute from about 15 mins to 30-45 mins. Its causing some shifting in our schedules but we can swing it. My biggest concern is getting dinner on the table.

Current situation. I do 80% of drop and pick ups (daycare is out of the way for DH - its 2 miles further than my job...so I handle it). 2 nights a week DH picks up so I can get home and fix dinner. 2 nights we eat leftovers. 1 night DH gets something going. Who ever gets the girls is home by 545 - DD1 goes to bed at 715.

Future Situation. DH will do all pick ups (I'll do all drop offs). DH will be getting the girls - so he will be unable to do real hands on work until he is home at 5:30/5:45. He is sometimes home around 4:30...so in theory he could pop something in the oven then. I will get home at 5:45/6.

So - DH likes to hate crock pot meals, but understands they will be a part of his routine. He is also unsettled about having the oven on while we are out of the house - we are going to start setting the oven timer this weekend to play around with it and up our comfort level.

My question is:

1) Do many of you set the time delay on your oven before going to work? I think from a food safety standpoint, if it is starting from fridge temp - placed in the oven around 8/9am, and starts cooking anywhere between noon and 4 this is ok...thoughts?
2) Any killer casserole recipes? Something I can prep the night before or even morning of and just have either DH or the neighbor girl pop in the oven?
3) Has anyone used a complete meal delivery service? There is a woman in the neighbor next to mine that is a chef...she does meal delivery...a meal for a family of 4 would be about $30, 6 would be about $40...this is entree, sides and starter (salad or soup) - I'm intrigued.

I've got DH on board with having crock pot once a week and soup with bread or sandwiches ones a week. So I really just need a couple other meals per week...with one of those being Sunday when I can hands on cook.

Would love any input!
