Most of the babysitting I did was for the family next door to us and my interactions were always with the mom. It was also usually after school and only occasionally at the weekend for the parents to have a date night.

I feel like if I ever needed a ride home the mom always drove me home.

I never had this issue, and I'm pretty sure the dads usually drove me home

I babysat a ton, even through college until I got married. I never once even got a hint of a "pass" by one of the dads. Not even any weird glances.

I babysat A LOT from 11-18 before I became a FT nanny. And as both a babysitter and nanny - I never had any issues. Like Mrs. Tiger though, a lot of people were family friends or from church - and I hardly remember any of them even coming home and appearing drunk or tipsy. My parents had always told me though that if I was babysitting and the parents appeared to have been drinking, to call them and ask them to come get me. My parents typically would always wait for me to get home anyway, so they were a phone call away. Thankfully I was never in that position, though!
Actually - it was funny because I became VERY close with one family I babysat frequently from 14+, and the dad actually taught me several self-defense techniques. He worried about me just like a dad would and wanted me to be safe.

And I think that's great your husband is very conscious of that, @Anagram:. I have several young teenage girls that babysit LO and there are a couple of them whose mothers enforce that same rule, never being in a car alone with a boy/man, and requested that I always be the one to pick up/drop off and I definitely respect that. I 100% trust the girls and trust my husband, but it's also a matter of principle and sometimes reputation, so I get it.

I babysat for a single mom, so this never happened to me.

My dad actually made it a point to never be alone with any of my friends. They said you never know who will accuse you of what for attention or whatever.

I babysat a TON and I never had a dad make a pass at me. Most were regulars who I knew and who knew my mom.

Unfortunately yes, this did happen to me. I think I must have been a sophomore in college, because I know I had my own car at that point.

I was babysitting on a regular basis, like bi-weekly, for a family with a toddler and an infant, mainly during the day when the mom either worked from home or had to run errands, etc. Usually the dad wasn't home.

They asked me to babysit for an evening once, and when they got home, the dad had obviously been drinking. I had my own car but the dad asked me to stick around while the mom went and checked on the kids and then she'd come back to pay me. When she was back in another part of the house he starting making comments about how I was lucky to be young and pretty, and asking if I had a boyfriend, and making other inappropriate comments. He was leering at me, clearly intoxicated, it was gross. His wife actually came back in and, right in front of me, started going off on him about flirting with me!?!? It was so uncomfortable. I had gathered from passing comments she'd made before that they were having a hard time with their relationship at that point, but OMG. Once she paid me I high-tailed it out of there, and the next day called and told her I could no longer babysit...I felt badly for her but I could not make myself go back.

ETA: Oh and he also offered for me to stick around and have a drink...I was definitely underage!

Ick, NO! That's terrible! Although I never needed rides, I only babysat at places within walking distance from my house. The parents I worked for were very nice and respectful. And my next door neighbors would even tell me to invite my boyfriend (now husband) to come over so I had someone to hang out with when the kids went to bed.

If this were a gold thread I would give more dirty details. But someone very close to me had an affair with a Dad. They were separated at the time, but she had babysat for them for years. It came to light and was a disaster. People still talk about in in my town even though it was over 15 years ago.

Nothing ever happened but I do remember I used to babysit for a male teacher of mine and his wife a lot. One night, he drove me home instead of her and I was SO uncomfortable being alone with him. And he was completely nice and definitely not hitting on me! Remembering how uncomfortable that car ride made me feel has made me adamant about my husband not being alone with our teenage female sitters.

Usually the mom would drive me home. I actually have really great memories of the conversations I had with one mom in particular. She gave me great advice and she was kind of a mentor to me.

The only skeevy dad story I remember is not at all sexual. The dad of a family I'd never babysat for before came to pick me up. He ran over a squirrel on my street and didn't acknowledge it at all. Just the *buh-bump* of the squirrel getting hit and then "so, how is school going?". There's no way he didn't know that he hit it. I thought he was a psychopath or something, though it doesn't seem so bad now, haha.

I baby sat often and I never had this issue. I did however eat a lot of people's food, which I feel badly about now.

I babysat a ton and usually walked home from what I remember. And yes, I do remember one dad in particular who was flirty. But it's not like I was scarred for life or anything....I haven't thought about it in years until right now haha

I babysat a lot but only when I was like 13-15, so no this was never an issue. Although now I think it is bizarre how many people trusted a 13 year old with their child.... lol.

Dads always drove me home and never had any issues. I don't think having our good men avoid these situations helps the issue at all and makes me sad that's what people feel is the answer.

That never happened to me. I babysat, mostly, for two families that lived in walking distance from my home. One of the dads, father of three girls, used to walk me home. The other family lived a bit further away, but the parents had two boys and sometimes the mom or dad would give me a ride home. I never had any issues with the dads. After awhile I was so happy when both families stopped insisting on walking or driving me home. Walking alone in quiet was so much nicer.

I hadn't really thought about a potential problem for DH to drive a babysitter home. Team no phony lawsuits! Driving home and then back out before crashing into bed does not sound like fun. We may just have to hire teens that drive or teens within walking distance of our house.
