Sorry so many interior decor posts today. We ned to finalize everything by this weekend.
I am torn between bright white cabinets or a dark grey/black/mocha painted cabinet. My one hesitation with white is that I assume they will get dirty faster but from reading online many people seem to say that isnt the case.
What color are you cabinets. Feel free to share pictures

I like and can appreciate the look of a white kitchen. But I'm too type A to have white everywhere. Also....and I know I'll be in the minority here...its just too common nowadays. I can't help but think that in 5 or 10 years, you'll step into a house and that white kitchen will automatically date that house. Muted grays on the wall + white kitchen= boring and predictable.

We have wood stain, but I wish we would have done some sort of painted ones. Even one color for the cabinets and different for an island. My Dh was SO against it. I just love Young House Love's new kitchen, although, it is a bit white for me.

We have white and we love it. I just like a white/bright/light kitchen! The getting dirty part doesn't really matter to me b/c I'm OCD about cleaning anyway!

@Littlebit7: Yes, I agree and think the white kitchen is actually already going out of style. Dark cabinets are definitely back in.
That being said, I don't think that means white is bad if that is what you like. I doubt a white kitchen will be as dated looking in 5-10 years as my knotty pine kitchen cabinets from the 50s are in my house.
Also depending on the size and light in the kitchen, dark cabinets can make the space look small.

We have white and with kids it always looks dirty, unless I wipe them down every day. I cook everyday, and I think it makes worse. Our bathroom tile is white too, and it shows every tiny piece of hair. I would love to have dark cabinets but they are the one thing the previous owners redid so we aren't changing them soon.

cabinets are white and island is espresso. love both colors

We have white and I LOVE them! I was nervous they would look dirty, but we cook every day and they always look clean still! If they get dirty they wipe clean so easily.
@Mrsbells: if you have the option to get the "soft close" drawers and doors, I would highly recommend going that route! They are awesome with littles and husbands who could otherwise be slamming everything shut all the time!!

I think ours are called Blonde Cherry, but I'm not sure. They're very pretty, though I really like white ones.

We just put in a white kitchen and it's beautiful. But I did it to hopefully attract buyers because we are going to sell our house soon. If i was building my own kitchen I would pick grey or dark wood.
ETA I do love the look of the dark on bottom and white on top too -

We have dark cabinets, but I would choose light/ white in a heartbeat.

Ours are wood with a light stain, I actually really like them and think they will look great if and when we ever upgrade to stainless appliances.

We painted ours by hand last year and have white uppers and black lower cabinets. I love the look for how small of a kitchen we have. The white on top really opens it up and the black hides the chocolate lab hair

We have white and while I HATE the cabinets themselves (cheap laminate with a strip of oak, popular in the late 70s/early 80swhen the kitchen was last redone) I do like the color. When we redo it in a couple years, my dream is soapstone countertops with new white cabinetry and a fun color paint on the walls, probably something that's a throwback to the 50s when the house was built.

I like white cabinetry, but mostly I just wanted to chime in to say that whatever color you opt for, have your cabinets very well cleaned, scuff sanded AND primed before painting. We had our golden oak cabinets painted white and while I loved the look, they constantly got chipped from light use (pre-kid!). That was very disappointing & wasn't something our painter warned us about. I ran around touching up chips pretty much from day one.

@PurplePeony: that's my dream kitchen, too!! Our house already has white cabinets that I love, with black laminate counters. So glad they are laminate so that we can justify redoing them sooner than if the sellers had put in stone countertops.
For OP: I love my white cabinets and wouldn't want a different color. I don't find that they get too dirty, I spot clean as necessary and do a weekly deep clean of the kitchen.

We have dark brown stained wood. I like it but I'd prefer white... not sure that it would look good with the color of our counters though!

We did ours in white. I had to convince DH to go for it but we're both happy we did. They're easily wipeable so I don't feel like they're hard to keep clean.

@MediaNaranja: Thanks for sharing that picture, I like the smooth look of your cabinets. Well you might as well wait and upgrade to black stainless appliances since that seems to be the future. We get some regular stainless appliances with the house so we will continue that theme so they all match -
Every place I have lived have had the darker wood stain cabinets. My husband and I purchased our first house together, and we are remodeling the kitchen. I knew I wanted white cabinets! I love the look of them. They make your space feel larger and brighter. We haven't installed them yet, but I'm so excited to have a white kitchen!

A light gray / taupe in some lights and I love them. Excuse the mess (taken amidst dinner chaos right now).

We have a white kitchen. It used to get dirty until we replaced the handles. They are nice and wide. Then it became easy to maintain.

The ugliest color of grey-ish poop brown paint. Ughhhh. We're renting (love our home, but our kitchen is a turd).

@aprild: yeah same everywher we have lived has had stained wood but in my case a lighter stain.
@winniebee: I love your kitchen! I like how the backsplash tile is also bright and light.
@808love: Thats a good tip, I'll keep in mind the style of the handles in deciding the color
@littlejoy: haha I am a renter too so I know the feeling you can love everything and still hate a few things hear and there.
