    @78h2o: hmmm how much blue dawn? In the washing machine?

    @Trailmix: ebay! the consignment store that's always open. very addictive!

    @scg00387: I am always buying ahead too, esp. if I find something awesome at Goodwill or at an end-of-the-season sale in bigger sizes. I went to the winter clearance sale at a local consignment shop and got cute Halloween and Valentine's day shirts for next year for .25 cents each.

    You are right that church sales are the best! My church had one last summer and I got a jogging stroller for $5 and a giant box of Gymboree and Baby Gap clothing for $5.

    @Silva: I put a small blob directly onto each stain and rub it in... then put the item in a bucket with a scoop of Oxy clean, warm/hot water, and another small squirt of Dawn. I mix it up and let it sit at least an hour. Usually everything is gone, but if I have to, I will let it sit longer... even all night if it's really bad. I've bought a few things online in "play condition" due to stains and got them back to looking new. I put it in the washer machine still a little soapy with the Dawn... doesn't seem to hurt anything.

    I've recently found that vinegar works really well at preventing fade, getting yellow out, and softening clothes. I use vinegar either in the rinse cycle (1/2 pint), sprayed directly on the yellowed area, or in the fabric softer compartment (1/2 cup).

    I've also started hanging most of her clothes to dry (rather than using the dryer), as that keeps them in better shape.

    @78h2o: have you had any luck with stains that have set?

    I've been doing a hydrogen peroxide + blue dawn lately and it's been great too!

    LO is at daycare so there's no saving clothes from stains.

    @Trailmix: hahaha- you should look around, I got a 15.00 code for my first order from a blog I follow, and they just sent me another one! I got a 100% cashmere sweater for my daughter for like 5 dollars. Because she needs cashmere.

    ETA: their app is great, too. i have it on my ipad.

    @locavore_mama: yes, it does seem to work for stains that have set. I haven't tried the hydrogen peroxide combo yet, but have been meaning to. I know what you mean about daycare... they keep sending me pics of her painting... which are cute, but she never has on a friggin' smock!

    See what I mean?

    @78h2o: Ahhhh not the Tea!!!! That photo made me scared. Vi has that dress. I always take her clothes off for eating or messy playing, daycare would terrify me.

    @78h2o: Do you do the blue dawn combo with all your Tea clothes too? I just ruined one of my DD's tea dresses that I was planning to resell. I soaked it in oxiclean for too long due to small but stubborn stain. I probalby could have resold it with that stain but stupid me, I just had to try and get it out

    @T-Mom: agh! I ruined a Tea dress (luckily I only paid $1.50 at Goodwill) by scrubbing too hard with an Oxy paste... Learned the hard way that scrubbing like that really only works on whites. Anyway, I know the feeling! What was even more annoying was that after the scrubbing debacle, the blue dawn combo totally worked and magically removed all the stains I'd been scrubbing (I'm sure the reason it was at Goodwill).

    Anyway, I do use that combo with Tea, but tread cautiously with darks and try to limit or avoid the soak.

    Oh, and now I'm debating putting a patch over the sad over-scrubbed spot on the dress... yay/nay? Patch is not very "Tea" looking but it's the right colors... But maybe I will just leave it and let her wear it to daycare like that!

    *sorry for the thread jack!

    @78h2o: such a cute little dress! And what a steal! I didn't even notice until I looked hard.. I think you can get away without patching, although the little owl is adorable too!!

    Thanks for the tips on the blue dawn, I have another stubborn paint stain that i might carefully try on.. also Tea. Eek...

    ETA: to answer the OP's question, I have $15-$20 for the entire outfit in my mind, but it's really difficult now that my DD is in size 6 and girls' clothing is expensive. I frequently break that price! My DS's clothes are much cheaper since he's still a toddler. $5 per item if I can.

    If you sew, you could possibly shorten the dress to a tunic top.

    @looch: that's a good idea too!
    @blackbird: thanks!
    @T-Mom: good luck with the paint stain. What kind of paint?

    I try and pay $10 an outfit. So if it's a romper the MAX i'll spend is $10, and then even less for onesies/pants. I'll spend a little more if it's a "special occasion" outfit, like for Christmas/Easter/weddings etc. Most of his clothes were gifts/bought off HB or at consignment sales! I'm a tightwad when it comes to baby clothes!

    @78h2o: It is some kind of paint from school.. it's supposed to be washable, but I've washed several times now with no luck!
