Our town is 6-8, I plan to go as quickly and early as possible since it's going to be cold and rainy!

There is trick or treating on our Main Street (like to stores) from 4-6, so we will go then. But I'm not actually collecting much candy since she's 15 m and it seems pretty obvious that's the candy will be for me.

No kids but last year I asked my coworker/boss since I was new to the area. They basically told me afternoon/after school - like 4-6pm. I looked at them like they were crazy! Who's around at that time?! Growing up in NH, my city had sets times from 6-8pm. After 8pm, lights went off and that was it. But we didn't get any kids last year so who knows. I saw them out but they didn't come by.

@Foodnerd81: I heard the same thing about my town last night. I guess there's a parade around the school area and then kids trick or treat at the local businesses? Thankfully I have some time to still figure this out lol!

@LindsayinNY: that's crazy! I don't think most people would be home before 6 to hand out candy!

@Pancakes: That was exactly what I thought/said!! Who's home at 4pm to hand out candy?! I think I got home between 5-5:30pm and apparently that was still too late? Silly burbs.

@looch: Right? I've never heard of a set time for trick or treating!

@looch: not here. I usually don't get anyone until dusk. The crowd comes after dark.

We'll be going around 430/5, but in our town everyone trick or treats on the Main Street where we visit the restaurants and businesses, and not at residential homes.

set times is so smart but we've never had that. growing up we always went around maybe 5? the sun goes down just after 6 this time of year here. last year i got home from work at 630 and only saw one kid... luckily my husband is obsessed with halloween and works from home every year JUST to hand out candy haha.

6, right when it starts to get dark. We will eat a little something before to tie her over, but will eat after at the community hall.

it goes from about 4-9 around here. the young kids start early.

In our neighborhood it's at dusk, which is about 6pm. Last year we went out a little earlier than that because her birthday was 6:30.

@looch: I think it's just figuring out what works in your neighborhood! For ours, most of the homes are occupied by dual income families so no one is home before 5/5:30 on Halloween - thus 6pm is the better time to go.

I usually only get older kids because I'm not home til 6ish. I probably miss a bunch of little kids, but oh well, I have to work to pay for the candy!

@Lindsay05: that's funny - the unwritten rule when I was growing up was at sunset (that's when the ghouls come out!).
I love that some communities have early trick or treating with activities for the littles, but working parents don't get home until long after they're over.

@looch: i go to my parents' to visit & the police drive around when trick or treating ends, if they see kids trying to go past the end time, they pick them up and drive them home

Haha, I'm annoyed when anyone comes by before it's dark! I think we will probably start around 6:30 or 7. Last year he only made it to 5 houses, so I'm curious to see how long he lasts this time.

We are having friend's over at 5, eating pizza for dinner, then heading out by 6!

It annoys me when they come before dark, especially since I don't usually get home until around 4:30 and have things to do.

In our town, it goes from 3-7. However, it's snowing out there right now and I don't think DS will know the difference whether we go out this year or not. I'm thinking about skipping it and letting him help hand out candy to any other brave souls that make it out.

It also annoys me when people come before dark (especially since the sun is setting here at 6:00). I also dislike when people are still showing up after 9:45.

@pui: yeah, we usually turn all the lights off around 9.

There's not a consensus in my neighborhood based on the FB group - I just hope we can run out & get some candy before they start showing up!
I think we will feed LO dinner and head right about at about 6.

We are usually not ready for trick or treaters until around 6- rushing around after work and getting the kiddos fed and into costumes.
This year our street had a block party from 6-8, but it really was more like 6:30-9 before we headed in and shut off the lights.
