My friend is having a baby shower next month and I just checked out her registry at PBK. She registered for a bumper so one of my other friends asked me to pitch in with her to buy her the bumper. I normally would...but I know that bumpers aren't recommended for infants. And I know I couldn't live with myself if something bad were to happen because of the bumper gift!
Would you buy your friend a crib bumper if she registered for it?

I feel like every time I see a nursery posted on someone's facebook, they're using a crib bumper so I think it's pretty common. I personally don't think I'd purchase one since they're not recommended for safety reasons.

Nope, I wouldn't, simply because I have a policy against buying a baby present I wouldn't use myself.

As a mom I now tend to get them the gifts off their registry that were my favorite items (A&A blankets are my go-to!)

If there wasn't anything else I would like to give her, I would. It's not my place to lecture another mom on what to use/not use. I had pictures of our nursery taken before the baby was here (with bumpers) but removed them after LO started sleeping in her crib. Your friend might use them in a similar way, or after the baby is a bit older.

A lot of people use them still. The risks are highly overstated. If she registered for it, she wants it.
I wouldn't, for the simple fact that I like to give a "basket" of gifts and include my favorite things rather than get one large item.

I would if it came with a set she was registered for (maybe she doesn't intend to use it? Or was going to repurpose it?) but if it was listed separately, I would not.

I prefer to buy things on a person's registry because that's what they're asking for...so because she's registered for it, then yes, I would buy it. But like others have mentioned, I do like to buy my favourite or most used items while still sticking to the registry.

Nope. I don't use them so I wouldn't buy them for a friend. I would find something else on her registry to get her, though!

My sister has this issue buying things for LO..... she refuses to buy her toys that are past her age. I said LO would love some alphabet magnets for Chanukah but they're for age 3 and LO is 16 months. I'm always in the room and watching her so I don't worry about it.... but my sister doesn't want LO to choke on HER gift.... and I get that. But I'll still buy it for her.
That all being said, I wouldn't buy the bumper either because I'm not comfortable with LO using them.

Since it's recommended not to use them, I would let them make that decision and get a different gift. That being said, we use bumpers in our crib. LO is a madwoman when she sleeps. After several nights of waking up over bumped heads and stuck limbs I put the bumpers on and don't regret it.

I decided not to pitch in for the bumper. But my other friend wants to get it for her anyway. I don't think my pregnant friend knows about the crib bumper safety recommendation. I'm wondering if I should mention it to her. Anyhow, decided to get her a quilt that she registered for instead. Hopefully she won't be using it in the crib during the infant stages!
