My sister who is 13 weeks pregnant has had a cold/fever/etc for over a month. Her general doc just prescribed a Z-pak for her. She's hesitant to take it but desperate to be well again. Has anyone else taken a Z-pak while pregnant?

I had a horrid cold for about 2 months during my pregnancy and my OB prescribed a Z-Pack for me. I didn't take it, though, as I refuse to take antibiotics for viruses, even though doctors keep prescribing them. But he did prescribe it, so I'm guessing it would be fine. My cold did go away eventually. I think it was just worse since I was so pregnant and already stuffy/short of breath with all the extra blood/weight/fluid.

It's Category B -- I took it when I was pregnant and my son is perfectly healthy (aside from currently suffering from a bad case of 4 month regression-itis )

Yes it is safe, if it's bad enough the antibiotic does less harm on the body than continuing to being sick while trying to grow a baby!

@macintosh: this. Or has she called her OB to see what he/she says?
