I have a 7mo that's not drinking his formula that well. He used to take 5 to 6 oz no problem, but now has trouble doing 2 oz in one sitting. He started solids at about 5 mos so I don't think that's the main culprit. Currently, I make a 6 oz bottle and will just feed it to him over the course of 45-60 mins - 2 oz at a time. Any other suggestions or ideas?

Have you tried changing the nipple flow?

@prettylizy: Yup - He was on Avent size 3 so I upped it to size 4 (the fastest). Didn't change anything.

My 6 month old (bf) is refusing the bottle. Somebody I know suggested trying a sippy cup or straw cup. I'm assuming you can do formula in a sippy or straw cup, maybe someone else can answer that question.

Both of my kids went on bottle strikes at around 7 months. One thing that helped was to feed them in a dark, quiet room directly before a nap. They would drink more from the bottle if they were half asleep. I also had limited success with intoducing formula in a sippy cup; my son drank better from a sippy at that age than my daughter did. Otherwise, all I did was just wait it out. With both kids, the bottle strike slowly worsened and then got better over the extent of one month. By 8 months we were pretty much back to normal.

My LO kind of went on a bottle strike at 8 months. My best friend who has 3 kids said all of hers did the same at around the same age. I would just feed as much as I could from the 6 oz bottle, and then refrigerate the leftovers and try to feed her the rest before her nap. It will get better, hang in there!

btw: p is almost 9 months now and is eating a little better (his overall comsumption of formula is around 20-25 ounces a day) we just kept offering it to him and fed him like always at night! its gotten better though. seems to be a stage he was going through and with eating solids doesnt seem to need as much formula as he once did!

Yea I just tried the sippy cup thing and it didn't work. He really doesn't know how to use one yet, so I'm not sure how I can expect him to drink milk from it all of a sudden! I was just reading that it could be an ear infection? He just had a cold so sometimes an ear infection comes after. The sucking may be bothering his ears.... which makes sense b/c he seems hungry when I offer the bottle, but will only suck for 30 secs to 1 min before pushing it away.
