@missifu: My mom's an acupuncturist. She's a doctor of oriental medicine. She's also licensed by the state! I would look into credentials before you get treated.

I definitely think acupuncture will help with your periods!

I have been going to an acupuncturist who is licensed by the state, but she is not a doctor. She has an MS in Oriental Medicine.

I have been going for about 2 cycles, 1 time a week and it is $75 per session. Generally, it is helping me with lowering stress, increasing my luteal phase (for a sticky pregnancy), and helping increase blood flow to my ovaries (better egg production) and uterus.

I have definitely noticed differences in my cycles in two major ways already. The first is that I now have no PMS cramping at all! Since coming off the pill in August, my PMS has gotten significantly worse until I started acupuncture. Second, this month my ovulation phase was lengthened by a day, and my luteal phase was lengthened by a day - both good for getting and then staying pregnant.

I went to one who was a doctor in oriental medicine. My sessions were $75 after insurance and extra for supplements. It didn't make a difference for me personally...I've got very severe PCOS, but I know that it helped a few friends of mine in the past. Good luck!

The acupuncturist I was going to had been a physician in China, she told me that (at least when she trained) all physicians there were trained in both traditional and western medicine and they can choose their "track". She had actually done the western medicine track and had been a cardiologist, but didn't want to repeat the residency and fellowship once she came to the US. She was awesome. I went to another acupuncturist who was not a doctor, there are just different ways to get your training.

I was going to acupuncture while we were TTC, I loved it! I lived in NYC, my insurance did not cover any of it but because she was somehow affiliated with the hospital I worked at, she gave a discount to the residents who would come to see her so I paid $200 for the first visit, $100 for following visits. I went about 2-3 x per month for 3 months but didn't get my BFP and couldn't afford it anymore. Now I live in Denver, CO and recently went to acupuncture with a woman who helped my sister get pregnant after 2 1/2 years of trying, it cost $80 for the first visit with her and $60 for each visit after that.

It didn't work for me (I did get my BFP but not anywhere near the time I had acupuncture) but it did work for my sister and other people I know. I highly recommend giving it a try. I would ask around for recommendations if you know anybody who has gone. When I was TTC, she recommended coming in as early in my cycle as possible, and coming in weekly for the first 2-3 weeks in the cycle. The acupuncturist you choose will have recommendations for when and how often you should go in.

I've been going to acupuncture once a week since December. I strongly believe it has helped with regulating my cycles. When I went off the pill in October I didn't get my period until one week after I started acupuncture and my cycle has been getting shorter and I've been ovulating earlier since I started.

I definitely think it'll help to regulate your cycles as well. My acupuncturist charges $70 for an hour.
