DS is 9.5 months old and just returned to daycare today after taking the summer off. He was super sick so we pulled him to let his body recover and had a college student nanny for us. Anyway, I expected poor naps and eating but he slept for about 45 min total and ate about 6 oz in 9 hours. Usually he sleeps 2-3 hours and eats at least 12 oz while I'm gone. I'm currently sitting in my car in the daycare parking lot nursing him and he looks exhausted. I know it's his first day back but how long did your LOs take to adjust?

Mine started daycare at 10 months old; probably took 2-3 weeks? The first week someone held her for her nap; the 2nd week short naps in pnp; then I think it got better and better! Now at 20 months, 10 months later, she is in the toddler room and goes to sleep on a mat and sleeps for at least 1.5 hours!

My LO is 8 months and hardly sleeps at daycare! It's a bummer but he sleeps pretty well at night and is generally happy there. Apparently this is pretty normal, at least among my friends, and the pediatrician wasn't concerned. We did a nanny share with my first at our place so this is new to me - sorry, second kid, no $$ left for that these days.

@peaches1038: DD has been at daycare since she was six weeks so I have no advice on how long it takes to adjust.. but around 9 months we would get some days with only 15 minutes of nap and on average was 50 minutes
Now that she's a year, we are finally getting back to 90 minutes of nap.

I think it takes a few weeks to really settle in, and even then there are days that aren't "normal," but they're just a blip on the radar now.

@peaches1038: it usually takes at least a couple of weeks. Sometimes longer for an older child. My LO took several weeks to adjust after she had the summer off last year she was 3 at the time

Now that she's a year, we are finally getting back to 90 minutes of nap.
