a lot of school districts have full day kindergarten, which i was surprised to learn about this year... is this a common theme?

My niece goes to an all day kindergarden. I remember going for half a day..

It's being phased-in throughout the province of Ontario in Canada. All of our schools will have it, I think, by next year.
And that is all day for 4 year olds (previously known as junior kindergarten here).

I went to full day kindergarten. As far as I know, full day is more common than half.

I didn't know half day kindergarten was an option. I though that was only available for preschools.
I worked in my school district a couple years ago and all KG's were FT.

I went to full day kindergarten in NJ over 20 years ago. I think that's the norm, at least around here.

when i lived in central virginia, all of the districts did full day kindergarten. on the coast, we still do half day (you can choose either am or pm).

in our district, up until last year, kindergarten in some of the schools in wealthier neighborhoods remained half-day to save money. last year, they phased out half-day K in those few schools and everyone has been full day since. my school has been full day for the last 20 years.

Oh yeah, our county just converted to full-day kinder a couple of years ago. Maybe it was last school year? I forget. But Mondays are still half day and I forget why. Not bad. I'm all for it. By then they don't need naps anyway so it's better to just keep them in school learning more things. Plus, us SAHMs can get a longer break, especially with more than one child to take care of like me!
