My girl has always had a high sleep need. (She didn't drop her 3rd nap until 11 months.)
Because of her age, daycare wanted to move her up to the next room, but I held her back because they only give them one nap and I know that she still needs two naps. (Prior to Christmas, she was taking two hour+ naps in a crib. After Christmas break, they gave her a playpen instead of a crib, and her naps went to almost nothing, even though she was exhausted.)
I realized the other day that, developmentally, she needs to be in the older kids room, but I'm torn because I know she needs more than one nap still. So, I talked to the director about gradually moving her to the next room to see how she does, but possibly putting her in the old room for a 2nd nap if she needs it. The director, although sweet, was a little condescending and saying "I know it's hard to let go, but she's growing up, Mom, and that's ok. It's tough being a first time parent. The kids are usually ready to move on before the parents are".
In all honesty, I wanted to slap her. I'm not an idiot, lady! I know she's growing up, and I couldn't be more thrilled, but she still needs her naps! I would think that anyone who is a director of a daycare can understand that a 12 month old might not be ready for just one nap, right?
Please tell me - am I being an over protective mama bear?
