I am torn between a free standing highchair or one that snaps on a chair. Which did you choose and why? Our chairs have upholstered cushions so that makes me nervous but at the same time we don't have a ton of space. We have space, just not a ton.

We have the Evenflo Modern one and love it! It stands alone. Our biggest reasoning was because our chairs are upholstered !

We have the fisher price one that attaches to a chair price was the deciding factor!

If you want a free standing one with the price of one that attaches to a chair, get the ikea one! It's great and so easy to clean!

We got the IKEA antilop since so many people recommended it. I was wary at first but it seems fine and super easy to clean.

We have a free standing one and love it. We roll it out for her meals then set it off to the side the rest of the time. We decided to go this route because we have guests over alot, this way she wouldn't be taking up a chair.

We also have the fisher price one that attaches to a chair. BUT I'm also a FTM and haven't started using it yet. So... ignore me.

We have the fisher price one that attaches to a chair, but our chairs aren't upholstered. But, my mom has the same one and puts a towel underneath it to help protect her upholstered chairs.

We have the fisher price one that attaches AND upholstered chairs. We put a tea towel down over the chair before snapping on the seat. It's been working great for the past few months. I like it because its way to take off, store, and travel with.

I prefer free standing, things get so messy I don't like cleaning both chairs! I'm another Ikea Antilop fan, I take it outside and house it off regularly.

We have the space but I just did not want a big bulky high chair! We are using a bebepod flex and going to buy the fisher price healthy deluxe booster seat now.

We got a fisher price one that attaches to a chair. I didn't want anything taking up precious space in our house! Haven't used it yet....baby still in belly!

I have the Stokke Tripp Trapp myself, but nobody I know who has a freestanding high chair likes it. Every one of those moms ended up getting one that straps on to a chair or clips on to a table.

@ladybee: ours are partially upholstered, but the belts secure it fine. I've actually never had to wipe down the chair (yet!), only her high chair part

I have both the FP booster and the OXO Tot Sprout. I much prefer my OXO free standing high chair!

I LOVE our OXO high chair. It's extremely stable and easy to clean. DD loves sitting in it too.

There are pros and cons to both. I loved my FP booster seat, as it was great to take to restaurants when she was too small for the restaurant high chairs. In the early days i mixed it up between the FP chair and the IKEA high chair (loaned from a friend).

I have used both, and have not found the kind that attaches to a chair to be particularly space saving. Ultimately I like the stand-alone for the first two- 2.5 years and then move on to a booster on a regular seat.

I have the FP space saver and love it. it fits into our dining set and doesn't stick out too badly!

We have the Stokke Tripp Trapp, so free-standing... but it doesn't have a tray, it just pulls right up to the table. I like that it's basically just another chair at our table. We got it in dark wood to match our table and (upholstered) chairs, and it has worked out great for us!

We have stools instead of chairs, so for our home I bought a used Peg Perego at a garage sale. I suggested that my mom get one that attaches to the chair, but she wanted a free-standing one so it doesn't take up a chair when there are a lot of people over. She got the same one as the top picture, in a different color/pattern.
