A preschool near us offers pre-pre-school for kids who are just shy of The Cut off for regular preschool (two year old program).
While I realize that they are probably taking advantage of a gap in the marketplace for the almost-but-not-quite 2 year olds, I can still see some value to it. But I'm not sure it's worth the tuition and everything for what he'd be doing there. Surprisingly it is very structured (free play, science/math/reading, circle time, snack, etc) but again, it's only 2 hours twice a week and they're barely 2 years old...I like that he'd get experience being away from me since I SAH, but he does go to Sunday school for 1.5-2 hours every week, and he separates from me just fine.
I also really love our days that are totally "free" and we can plan them however we want. I would lose that if we had to start schlepping to PPS twice a week (two other days I have a sitter so I can run errands so I already "lose" two solo days a week with him.) We would only have Friday's as just us. I feel like maybe I should wait a year till he's 3 and then just to regular preschool, but by then he'll be in with the others that had the year of preschool already. Will he be behind?
I live in a city where preschool is Pretty much expected, not an option. So most do send their kids to preschool at 2 if they hit the cutoff. That's why I worry about him being behind (socially and in experiences, not academically).
Anyone do anything like this? Was it worthwhile? (Bonus if you're in NYC!) It's so expensive! I have a hard time justifying it, but I ultimately want to do what's best for him.
