Just got the diagnosis! I'm excited about getting some answers and a plan.
I was put on metformin and dexamethasone.
We thought we would go right to IVF, but my RE said we could try IUIs since I'll be on metformin now.

I don't, but YAY for a diagnosis! I hope it leads to great things really soon!

@bluestriped bee: Did they use any criteria other than lower AMH to diagnose the DOR? Usually it takes FSH + low AFC, but the hallmarks of PCOS would be the opposite of that.

I do have PCOS, but no experience with DOR.
I'm very happy to hear you have a diagnosis and a plan!

@spaniellove: I forget. They mainly diagnosed and explained the PCOS. I need to ask them again. I do wish they written out the explanation so my bad memory could remember.

@bluestriped bee: You can ask at your next consult! It seems like they're just treating you for PCOS, though. Do you happen to remember how long after going off BCP you had your AMH tested?
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@spaniellove: I was off BCP for a year before even TTC. So it's been about 4 years since I've taken BCP. Most recent was last month.

@spaniellove: I was given a daily prescription of dexamethasone. I can't remember why the steroid was given to me. Can't remember if it is PCOS or DOR related. I should call them today.

@bluestriped bee: Oh okay - I was asking because BCP can suppress your ovaries, sometimes for quite a while, and artificially keep your AMH down. I think the dexamethasone is for PCOS?
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@spaniellove: oh, that could explain my first AMH. I was only off BCP for about 5 months at that point.
Oh, wait my memory is slowing coming back.
They mentioned something about my follicle size. Although that might be PCOS related.
They did say that since I have DOR that it good to have PCOS, because they can work together. I forget the explanation.
I was thinking I should have asked to record our session on my phone. Next time I'll ask.

@bluestriped bee: As you know from the thread we both posted on a few weeks back, my AMH went way up, too! From a .6 to a 2.2. I have no idea the reasoning, but perhaps I have the start of PCOS? I don't know! I'm glad you got your diagnosis and know what you are dealing with now. I have a good feeling that IVF will be your ticket to success. You must be excited to have a plan in place now!!

@Jenn23: thanks but now that we have a diagnosis, the dr said we could go back to trying IUIs or continuing the IVF path. I'm thinking of trying IUI again.
I believe the AMH results showed I had DOR. The PCOS diagnosis was due to my blood tests that showed I had higher levels of testererone and dHEAS and my increased insulin levels. Plus the sizes of my follicles after stimulation.
I would talk to your RE if you think you have PCOS. There are many different symptoms that could make someone have PCOS. I think that's why my first RE didn't test me for PCOS. I didn't have the more common symptoms.

@bluestriped bee: That's awesome that you can go back to trying IUI's! How many have you already done? Have you done them with injections or meds?
My RE didn't mention PCOS, so I probably don't have it, but I will bring it up next time I see him just to see what he says. I want to ask him again how my AMH levels went up? We had like 30 questions to go over at our IVF consultation last month so I just didn't get a long answer about that part and I really want to know.

@Jenn23: We have had 3 completed IUIs and 3 not completed. All cycles I was on Femera and trigger shot.
My next IUIs, I will be on metformin and dexamethasone along with Femera and trigger shot.
My new office does two inseminations, one before I ovulate and one after. New protocol, too. They'll be monitoring me, too. It will be completely different from my last RE.

@bluestriped bee: Awesome! That sounds like a great plan. I'm glad you are with a new RE that you like! Fingers crossed for you.

Yay, I'm glad you have a diagnosis :). How did you respond to meds before? I have PCOS and it took a few rounds to get the meds right, but as soon as we did I got pregnant :)..

@ShootingStar: thanks! So far I'm just taking 500 mg of metformin for the first week then 1000 mg the second week and 1500 mg the third week and monitoring me throughout my cycle.

@bluestriped bee: I hope it works for you! Metformin didn't help me ovulate, but then I knew as soon as I came off BC that I had a peoblem. I eventually succeeded with femara and gonal-f. But I've heard that metformin can be like a miracle drug for some people :-).

@bluestriped bee: I have PCOS and was given metformin... I had cycles of 150+ days and only got my period when I was induced with progesterone. After i started taking metformin my first cycle was only 38 days!! still not normal, but better than before.. now this cycle I'm on day 43... so worse than the first one. Just went to the doc and got more progesterone and am starting clomid next cycle on top of progesterone.
also, i ramped up the dosage faster than that... of course, do what your doc/pharmacist says, but i was up to 1500mg by 10 days or so.
