I have been having contractions for two days that feel like Braxton Hicks in my stomach, but they are extremely painful in my back.
I had them last night and they went away after an hour...today they've been going on for thirty minutes. I wouldn't mind, but the back pain is horrendous.
It seems early for BH. Anyone else experience anything similar this early?

@mediagirl: yes I laid down and drank water and that's how they went away last night.
But today they're not going away....

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I'd definitely call your provider! Maybe you've been getting dehydrated?.. I know that can cause contractions!

I think contractions always warrant a call. Way better to be safe... (My contractions at that time were very real, but not in my back and accompanied by bleeding.)

Yeah, I'm chiming in to say call your provider. It might be nothing but it doesn't sound quite right to me if they're not going away. Thinking of you.

I only had painful Braxton Hicks with E, my OB said I was doing too much but it was impossible to do less with B. They were the worst around 27-30 weeks too. Call your doctor just to make sure!

I've been feeling in general blah with back pain and some BH and I think in my case it's overdoing it. I walked a bunch at the beginning of the week and E has been extra clingy so I've been bending over and picking him up all week long all day long.
If they don't stop a call wouldn't hurt though!

I did at 24 weeks.
Absolutely call your OB, drink plenty of fluids, lay on your side and see if they want you to head to l&d for monitoring.
Or, head straight to l&d!!

@Running Elley: that too! Lifting a heavy toddler always seemed to trigger more BH's.

@HLK208: I finally connected the dots when I read a thread on here earlier this week about how much weight is okay to carry...uhhhh my baby is almost 25 pounds lol and I carry him ALL the time. I've been really paranoid since and much more careful about how I pick him up!

Okay. I've been carrying my daughter/exercising/vacuuming and doing stuff all weekend. Must be doing too much.
Gonna give it an hour then call!! Maybe find a sitter so I can rest.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Call for sure! Even if they go away again, I would still call to ask their opinion and make them aware. Rest and drink.
My SIL went into labor at 6 months with both of her children. She had to go on complete bedrest and if she got up to go to the bathroom her contractions would start. Calling your provider is the best way to get some peace of mind.

I'm curious what your OB said be side I've been having awful hard belly pain all day, and my back has hurt since 10 weeks but I just assumed that Braxton hicks were supposed to be miserable? I guess not?
Call for both of us because I'm too chicken to call!

I had BH from 18 weeks on and they were uncomfortable but not painful like you describe. Hope you've called or they went away.

My BH started super early! They were always way worse when I worked too hard at work. Take it easy, mama.

Mine started at 26 weeks and turned into real labor at 30 weeks when I did not slow down. It ended it a hospital stay and 7 weeks of strict bed rest. Please slow down and take care of yourself. It is not worth the risk.

they have subsided for now. Interested to see if these becomes a pattern.....i wonder if the heat and my swelling could have anything to do with it?

Last week I think I over did it with lifting stuff and I didn't start having contractions but I did lose some of my MP the next day and felt like complete crap. Luckily we had decided to visit my parents so I just laid around recovering, I had no idea I was over doing it but it took a lot out of me. Even the day after that I was moving a lot slower than normal.
I hope your contractions stop and you can find a way to take it easy until you start feeling better.

I didn't, and I don't mean to be alarmist, because chances are nothing is really happening, but I would take them seriously anyway. I NEVER had unbearable pain in the front. I only remember it being in the back, except for the first few mild ones. So I would take it seriously regardless of the front feeling ok. I hope you keep resting as much as possible!

@Rainbow Sprinkles: my contractions started when it was really hot and I was doing tons of walking and moved our entire office to clear the baby room. I think the heat definitely has an impact. Rest up!

@MrsTiz: you should call your OB, too! My OB really stressed that BH should not hurt - that they could be uncomfortable but if they were painful to call the office right away.

@Mrs. Jacks: a week from Thursday. I do have PIH and was induced for PIH with my last pregnancy. I'm currently taking Atenalol. My BP was up at my appointment this week, even while on the meds.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: Yeah, that's my big concern... Having pih once can make you higher risk too. Ask if your doc wants to see you sooner.
