Yep! We have been using Creighton for three plus years, and my doctor is NaPro trained. We have had great experiences with him so far. Full disclosure: we didn't have to go terribly far down the IF road before we got our sticky baby, and I don't know what would have worked and what would not have, had we needed further intervention. But I felt that my doctor was very proactive in a way that I was comfortable with, and I got my sticky baby the cycle we did my HSG with him. My husband and I decided that we would at least start with this road, and see where it took us.

All that to say, I don't know that there is much to lose by looking more into it. I say, go for it!

I have conceived twice before, the latter ending in miscarriage, so I don't feel that I am anywhere near needing iui or ivf. I feel that there is an issue and we need to solve it instead of just dubbing it unexplained and fixing it with a band aid. I actually started it for a possible LPD, but the testing has brought up other issues as well. I'm very much in the beginning stages so I haven't gotten my sticky baby yet, but as of now I highly recommend it!

Right. As others said, it's an evidence-based medical model that was designed to offer infertility solutions aligned with Roman Catholic reproductive ethics, started out of Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. The focus is on finding and treating the underlying cause of sub/infertility rather than just making a baby no matter the cost. Clomid is definitely still a possible part of the game, but usually at much lower doses than standard IF methods (to minimize risk of hyperstimulation) and even then only once it's determined you're in need of an ovulation boost. For LPD you'd probably first be on luteal phase progesterone supplementation.

It would have been my first go-to if we'd faced difficulty conceiving. The NYC team at Gianna Center (mentioned by another bee above) are close friends of mine and I would trust them very much.

@Snowdrop: Good for you! I hope that you have a good experience.

@Happygal: confession time: before I joined HB, I knew shamefully little about what REs did/do. I think I had it in my head that if you have IF (whatever vague idea I had of exactly what that meant), you either just DTD all the time for years, or you went to an RE, where your only option was to spend an obscene amount of money on IVF. My parents struggled with IF for three years before they had me, but to my knowledge, they never saw an RE. I always worried that we would struggle, too, and it scared the crap out of me. I was pretty sure REs were out of my price range, and probably out of my comfort zone.

It's funny to think about that broad generalization now, because there are so many different options, not just between OB and RE but also among treatment protocols and even just personality types. We tried one NaPro doctor that we were very unhappy with, because he brushed us off. After moving, though, we found our current one, whom we love to work with. I think it's all in finding the right fit, regardless of what kind of doctor you end up going with. So I say, the more options women have for seeking treatment, the better!

@Snowdrop: hmmm, I'm not sure. I too use fertility friend and while our lines got a little crossed in discussions regarding certain things, she still used them and treated me off them. The only thing is that she is just at a regular OB office and happens to specialize in napro, so that may be a difference. She did seem more interested in CM overall so I would think if you are paying attention to it and charting it they should be able to work off from that! I hope you're able to to skip to phase 3! I think our situations sound similar so feel free to wall me if you want more info on the tests I did and my treatment plan.

@Snowdrop: hey lady-sorry, I didn't get the notification of the last post. I'm not 100% of the answer to your question, but I think it's worth a shot with what you've got, especially because you've got data on CM. @anandam: is right in that the language is pretty specific, but if you've been taking good notes, then it may be enough to get treatment started. A crash course on Creighton charting wouldn't be the worst thing you could do, but if you can do that and not have to wait another 3 months, that sounds ideal!

I know I'm a little late to this conversation, but I saw it last night and hate typing on my phone, so I waited until I got to work.

I started seeing an OBGYN practice that specializes in NAPRO about two years ago.

In short, I LOVE them. Things seem so much less mechanical and scientific with them. They're seem so much more focused on me - as an individual - and on the natural processes of life.

I haven't exactly been TTC yet, but within two months of going there (I'd recently quit BCP since I got married and was sick of the hormones) they figured out I had PCOS and helped naturally regulate my periods. And it wasn't even something I brought up or was concerned about! I'd been on BCP for so long to regulate things because that's what doctors in the past had suggested.

Even before DH and I were wanting to actively TTC, the doctor went through the steps we could take if we did run into problems. It's a Catholic practice, so honestly I was surprised how much they could do to help fertility problems. I'd always figured the Church sided on "either it happens or it doesn't." I didn't realize all the "natural" options there were available.

And after going through our recent miscarriage, I'm really happy that I was able to go to doctor's (mostly...I really hated one) who were incredibly tuned in to my emotions and never once referred to our baby as an embryo or any other scientific term.

I also LOVE that it's a non-profit that helps women who don't have the means to pay to take care of themselves and their babies. By going to them and having my insurance pay for my visits, I'm helping out other less fortunate women who the practice isn't charging.

As for Creighton method, that's what they teach at my office (they have classes that insurance will cover as they code it for birth control). I haven't followed it exactly (I learned the BBT method in our pre-cana), but the doctors are able to read those charts as well and that's how my doctor discovered I wasn't ovulating at first and was able to prescribe progesterone after nothing but a blood test.
