So, I don't feel like I have mastered the side lying position . . . I still have to move over LO to the opposite side when I am changing boobs. Am I doing it wrong? I have tried to stay on one side and just lean further over for the second (top) boob, but it doesn't really seem to work.

I have managed to do it ONCE...I don't remember how though because I was in a half asleep daze, lol. I haven't been able to repeat it. We're also not huuuge fans of side lying, except for MOTN feedings when I can bring LO to my bed...during the day he's was too distractible and doesn't like lying down.

I tried side-lying a while ago, and couldn't figure it out --i should try it again though maybe!
I usually basically just lay down with a few pillows behind me and have LO draped across me... it's pretty comfy

I always switch sides! Leaning over doesn't give her a good enough latch, even though I have humongous ta-tas

I do it every night now, I couldnt figure it out at first but I found that using three pillows for my head and a body pillow next to me and putting LO's head on it and her feet on my belly works.
Not sure if I'm explaining it correctly, but it works for me and I can get some shut eye and if she falls asleep shes snuggled up next to me.

LO is only a little over two weeks but I've tried side lying and could not figure it out. She never got a good latch. Laid back also looks comfy but there was no way that was working either. I'm afraid of smothering her, too

I really wanted to master this but it never happened. It was always just...wrong and never reached him properly and looks crazy

I've only tried it about 3 times and it was really uncomfortable for me. So we don't do it.

We can only do it on my right boob and its awkward to get set up but I love it. I end up on my elbow holding my right boob with my right hand and holding lo up by the back of his neck, latch him, ease him down, ease my right hand out from under my boob gently so he doesnt unlatch, ease my right arm straight and under my pillow so im lying down. My left boob though is too big so when I ease my left hand out from under the boob he always pops off. But I have big boobs and small nipples so its always a trick to get and keep him latched anyway. I haven't figured out how to do both from the same side either. My other problem is once he's done we both snooze a bit but then I wake up with him trying to get back on (unsuccessfully) because he wakes up with nip in his face. So it's not the best position for us if I want to take a nap with him or anything. I still need to get up and move him somewhere once he's done/asleep.

That works for me, but I have huge boobs. Seriously porn star big, and I'm not bragging here. They're a pain. And it isn't even that comfortable for me - I often move my girl to the other side, and she's a big wiggly toddler now. I don't think you're doing it wrong AT ALL if that is where you are. I would be lost without side lying nursing.
Also, I didn't make it work until 5 months-ish when she was a lot bigger. Try it again in a little while if you can't manage it now!

I can kinda do it, but I feel like my arm is all weird... I'm either propped up or it's stuck under me or it's wrapped around LO... just not very natural feeling.

@ladyfingers: I co-bed with LO for at least part of the night, and sometimes she just pops on and off because it's right.there.in.her.face.
I feel so much better that I am not the only one!

Oh and laid back is a bust. I have no clue who that works for.
I heard with side lying if you need to switch sides you can bring LO to your chest, roll over, and latch. That might be a nice somewhat seamless alternative.

i tried it, but it was just awkward and i couldn't get comfy and LO couldn't latch on good

@ladyfingers: I think only way older babies. LO still just suffocates herself most of the time when we try that one.

@ladyfingers: Ooooh - I have not heard of the roll over with LO on my chest. That sounds better--and safer--than climbing over her in the middle of the night!

@MsLipGloss: yeah same here. It wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't such an ordeal to get him latched in this position so it would interrupt my sleep too much. Maybe we can try cobedding more once he's older.

I didn't get the hang of side lying until she was over 3 months old. Lay back nursing only works now because she's a big girl and goofs around.

We just got this down about a month ago and went from having them sleep in their beds in our room to co-sleeping. It has made a world of difference in my sleep! I keep one babe on each side and when they wake I just roll over. My little guy wakes like 4 times a night and the little lady about twice. Its funny because I do it all the time.
Little man is very impatient and has now learned that during the day if I am feeding his sister he can crawl up behind me, stand up and lean over to eat from his "side". I find it hysterical and its true what they say that the relationship does change as they get older. It looks funny but I do what works.
My son's name starts with a "R" so to keep the twin stuff straight we adoped the rule that "R" is alway on the "r"ight. That includes nursing. I may be uneaven but I don't have to think about who ate from which side the last time. -
LO is almost 11 months and I still pick her up and move her over to switch to the other boob. Now that she's older and heavier she fusses when I'm making the switch. I've tried to just lean over but the latch ends up hurting.

I can do both boobs laying on the one side but LO's latch isn't that wonderful especially now she has two bottom teeth. We only started side lying when she'd just turned four months old

I have mastered it down to a tee! It's actually my favorite BF position! It's so convenient especially since we co-sleep.

I wish I could master side lying! Right now I can only do cross cradle but it's getting harder as he's getting longer so I need to practice side lying more

I never managed leaning over to offer the other breast, and never really wanted to...I found that since birth I can't lie on my side for very long without pain, so I always either rolled with him on my chest or sat up, moved him over a foot and settled back down on the other side.

You know, I've always heard about all the different positions one can feed LO in, but we never mastered any of them other than the straight cradle hold! We're going on nearly 9 months of EBF now and LO has never fed in any other position besides the cradle hold. When I had a blocked duct, we tried the dangle feed and that was a big ole failure. And I tried the football hold once, which was also a massive fail. I couldn't even get close enough to figuring out the side laying feed to even try it! Ah well, maybe with the next one I'll get a bit more creative....

I prefer to switch sides. 1. It's not comfortable to almost, but not fully lay on my stomach & 2. b/c of some back issues I can't lay on one side too long anyways.
