I was diagnosed with a vaginal infection and was prescribed 2 kinds of antibiotics plus a drug to help contract my uterus. I specifically asked if I can take them while breastfeeding and was assured they're fine. But after looking up the drugs, one of them (metronidazol -Flagyl 400mg) got me nervous. The lactation risk is "moderate" according to Kellymom. But MedicineNet claims it's not safe for breastfeeding. Drugs.com says "no definitive study has yet been performed in humans" but it's a carcinogen in animals and has been banned in the US and EU for use on animals. Yikes!

Anyone else pumping & dumping after taking antibiotics? How long did you wait until after you stopped taking them to resume breastfeeding? Any advice and words of encouragement appreciated!

Also, I breastfed her (more for soothing her to sleep) "one last time" before I really looked up the meds assuming it would take awhile before it seeped into my breastmilk. It was between 30 mins - 1.5 hours after taking it. But she never truly fed for long. Now I'm slightly freaked out by doing just that! She couldn't have drank much milk to begin with but now my paranoia has kicked in!
