We're actively TTC. Ever since we started, DH has been *adament* that I don't drink. Unless AF is in town, of course. Despite anything I tell him, he refuses to believe that no harm will be done that early on. So, despite all the stress at work, I've avoided drinking any alcohol. I know he's being crazy but in a way it's getting me use to not having it. Was anyone else this strict when TTC?

I'm trying to be, but I still like to enjoy my wine. I'll drink freely (which still only means 2 or 3 glasses max) when AF is in town, and for two weeks after until around O time. After that, I may have a glass during the TWW, but I try not to. After a BFP though, I'd stop cold turkey... my DH is adamant on that too

The only time I didn't drink was during the 2nd week of the TWW. There is no way I could have gotten through all those months of failed treatments without any alcohol!

I didn't drink when we were TTC EXCEPT, the month we got our BFP I was fed up during the TWW because I had no 'symptoms' and had a few mimosas at my sisters Confirmation.

I don't drink anyway so technically yes..... but I didn't refrain from other things. Like my prescription meds. I asked my doctor if I should stop taking them during the TWW and she said until you get a BFP don't worry about it, they won't hurt anything.

I drank but stopped during the TWW.

I continued to drink. By the time you get your BFP the placenta isn't even formed yet. Unless you binge drinking it will have no effect.

@MamaMoose: I've tried to tell him that but it's not use. He's "convinced" otherwise. So I keep pretending that sparking water or soda is something else, LOL.

Heck no! I enjoyed myself at a family wedding two days before my BFP.

I have been drinking less than I used to, as has dh, but I'm def still drinking. TTC is stressful enough, no need to give up my wine just yet!

I drank less, but didn't abstain, even during the TWW. I tested early and got my BFP at 9DO, and obviously stopped then.

When we first started TTC, I did stop drinking. I don't drink all that much, but I do like a good glass of wine and seem to over indulge every once in a while. Around the 6 month mark of TTC, I started drinking again but not during the TWW. If there is a special occasion during the TWW, I will have a glass or two of wine, but not get drunk. We've been TTC for 15 months and I would have gone nuts if I didn't drink this whole time!

Nope, and I'm glad I didn't stop! I miss drinking now that I'm pregnant, and glad I didn't refrain during the 4 months of TTC. I did drink less, but there are definitely pics of me holding a giant can of beer at the ren fest during the TWW we got our BFP

no way, I needed some cocktails to relax! If I was right around the date AF might have come and had a big night out planned, I used to test just in case, but didnt worry about it otherwise.

Hell to the no! I'm in the Drink Til It's Pink camp! Anything you drink before a BFP is harmless!

initially, yes, i did refrain, but 3 months down the line and no BFP, i embraced a bottle of fine chardonnay and still enjoy the occassional glass of Moscato and cocktail drinks now and then

nope, but i'm not a HUGE drinker. i mean, i'll still get a drink or two if we go out, but i don't drink at home. i'm not going binge drinking, but i am comfortable in the drink til it's pink camp (and even then, half a drink every once in awhile during pregnancy wouldn't be a big deal to me <gasp!> but we'll see what DH says at that point)

I barely drink and def abstained during TWW. IT made me feel better.

Heck no. My doctor even told me to drink til it's pink. I would have done a lot of abstaining if this were the case! I have never thought a glass or two of wine was going to cause issues.

@LindsayInNYC: I totally get that and now that LO is on the outside every decision concerning her is made as a team. But when we were TTC and pregnant hubs always gave me final say to make the decisions that I thought were in the best interest of me and the baby. I didn't want to feel like he had control over my body just because I was pregnant and he respected that and trusted me to do what was right.

I'm only two cycles in, but I drink fairly normally the first half of the cycle. After I ovulate, I have maybe 1 drink/weekend. Since I am a nurse practitioner, my DH defers to me for all things health

The first time around I did for the first 3 months until the novelty wore off and I moved into the Drink Till Pink camp. I almost never have more than 1 drink at a time anymore, so I really don't worry about it.

@LindsayinNYC: I think it's touching you're husband is involved in the TTC process. And it's good to find other ways to relax without that wonderful glass of wine.
I've shifted on this topic over time. I was "drink till it's pink-whoo hoo!" in the beginning. Now we're on our fifth cycle, and I've been trying to look more into diet and other things. A few books I have read encourage limiting/eliminating alcohol not for the safety of the fetus, but to help w/fertility in general. So that is an easy(ish) thing for me to do to help our chances. Coffee, on the other hand, has not been as easy for me!

I chose not to drink while we were in the ovulation / TWW window. I was temping / charting, so I drank for the first half of my cycle, and stopped about 4 days before I expected to ovulate. We got lucky on our first try, but I suspect I would have continued not drinking. I think its fine to drink until you have a positive test, but I"m a total worrier and know I would have obsessed about it for the whole pregnancy if I'd been drinking when I got pregnant.

@Happygal: That's my biggest thing - finding other ways to relax without wine, despite how much I like it. I won't consume anything while pregnant so it's probably a good idea to get use to not having it now. I'm in a super long cycle right now so I haven't gotten an AF week of wine in 6 weeks. That might have something to do with it, LOL. I hear ya on coffee. I'm doing okay with that and trying to have decaf if I need more.

Well we later found out that LO was conceived before we left for our all inclusive resort which I enjoyed to the max. I was in the "drink til it's pink" camp!

I too drank during my period and a little after without worry. While trying I only really drank before I O'd. I was pretty lax with it though. But the cycle we did conceive actually worked out well. I was at my sister's bachelorette before I O'd and drank, but post-O I just knew I shouldn't. Even though I know it isn't supposed to be a big deal until implantation, I didn't drink a drop after my sister's bachelorette even when out at parties. I think it's safe to abstain from O date on, although I know alcohol can mess with TTC in general (my OB said for BOTH of us to avoid it) so cutting back is never a bad thing. I think binge drinking or drinking a good amount DAILY is way worse than a few glasses of wine, though.

I can't imagine giving it up for TTC because that could take a year, 9 months during pregnancy and then while breastfeeding? No wau

@MrsTiz: Well, it would be giving up entirely EXCEPT for when AF is in town. That's been my position thus far - if I'm bleeding, I can drink, LOL. So roughly one week or so a month (provided a normal cycle which I clearly don't have)?

Heck no!!! I drank up until the line was pink. I even drank the night before I took my test. I thought that I was, but was sure I was imaging it, and I wanted one last drink if I was.

I did for the first year of TTC. After that, bring on the booze. Honestly, I think I even drank while pregnant (before getting my BFP).

I didn't drink at all, but if it had taken us longer I think I would have started again! Well, maybe not during the TWW, but at least for part of the month.

No. I rarely drink and I indulged one day for a friends birthday, DS was conceived that day haha. And with #2 we weren't trying and I had a few wine coolers the week I got my BFP

I'm not drinking unless I'm 100% sure I'm not KU. But I don't drink much anyway... (liquor in desserts is a whole different story
DH feels better when I don't drink and I kind of made him promise if there are no drinks for me there are none for him, too....
