DS is 5 months old and Im really not looking forward to starting solids.. It's such a pita preparing baby food.
He's large and chunky and I make more than enough milk for him. Would it be bad to wait til like 9 months before I give him food?

P is petite but gained within the normal range for breastfed babies... we waited until 9.5 months. I'm in the delay solids camp!

i am staring late for several reasons. one of them being the same as you - i am avoiding the PITA work that i feel will come with it! i also want to give BLW a try, so i am waiting for L to sit on his own. he is currently 6 months and 1 week now, and after today (he was trying really hard to take both hands off from his tripod sitting position), i think he will be sitting by the end of the week! so i might only wait a couple more weeks max....need to go out and buy that high chair and read the BLW book first.

@runsyellowlites: i am also somewhat in this camp. i read all the kellymom articles about delaying solids, but i also want to discuss it with my new ped.

I started offering solids at 6 months but my daughter appears to be in the "delaying solids" camp. I try to offer her something on the tray almost every day but she doesn't really eat. And forget about the spoon. I'm not worried - I don't think anything bad happens if you don't start at 6 months. And throwing a few florets of broccoli or some peas on her tray is not too time consuming. I stopped making purées because t was a waste of my time.

I don't think it would be a problem! He's obviously not lacking nutrition
The only reason we started as early as we did was because E was obsessed with food lol

My DS is almost 6 months and I'm totally dreading it. I think it's gonna be a pain too. I will start in a few weeks though. Maybe I will love it. Who knows haha.

I've delayed with all three of my kids .... my youngest will be 9 months soon and at best has had a bite of banana this week. None are worse for wear and the older kids (7 & 4) are great eaters.

We just started this week at 6 months. I don't expect to be consistent with it for quite some time as she is/was growing fine on just breastmilk. We felt we couldn't totally delay much longer though because the kid was READY. She reaches for our mouths whenever we eat and if we put her at the table in her high chair she tries to pull our plates to her.

We were super excited to start BLW but she didn't really care at all. She didn't start actually eating until she was closer to 9 months. And solids poop is the WORST!! EBF poop all the way!

I tried at 5 months, but he didn't seem to be ready. He didn't start wanting solids until 8.5 months. I'm glad I just waited until he was ready.

9.5 months after DS's rice reaction at 6 months (which was literally 1 baby spoonful of rice cereal so I hardly consider that starting solids). We didn't find a "safe" food for him until 10.5-11 months which was only carrots and didn't really start eating until well past 1 year. I'd say around 15 months, but our situation is a little more unique. He was well breastfed too and still gaining well
