I've been having more and more migraines recently. I haven't taken anything because I am nursing and don't have enough milk stored to pump and dump.
I have a migraine right now and the doctor with whom I work gave me a prescription for Fioricet. I've never taken that drug before, but from what we could find, it looked like one of the better options for nursing.
Just curious if anyone has taken it while nursing? Did it help? Did it appear to affect your LO in any way?

I don't nurse, so I can't speak to that, but I've gotten severe migraines for a very long time and Fioricet is a lifesafer. Seriously.

@78h2o: I have a fioricet prescription and L' pediatrician told me I can't take it while nursing. I cried. But don't let tht stop you!

I took it for my spinal headache after I delivered. And I was nursing at the time. My medical issue was so severe that the doctors in the hospital all said it was more important to treat the headache than worry about the breastmilk. As I understand it, the caffeine in it is the main issue. I'd ask your pediatrician!

Yes! I took it both while I was pg and now that I am BFing (approved by my OB and Neuro).
@78h2o: Imitrex is definitely on the *no* list . . . which is unfortunate, because Imitrex injections were my go-to for migraines (and the only thing that worked).

@MsLipGloss: I was doing the Imitrex (or the generic version) injections prior to pregnancy as well... they worked better than anything. During pregnancy, my Neuro said there wasn't anything I could take other than Tylenol/Advil/caffeine. But they are telling you that Fioricet was/is okay? I should probably call my Neuro or the pediatrician, as my boss doesn't really know what he's doing... we looked at his med book together and thought that one looked best. I'd rather not take anything, but it might be good to have something on hand if I get another bad one. Luckily the one today has died down...

@78h2o: Yes, Fioricet was on the approved list for migraines during pregnancy (it was approved by both my OB and my Neuro . . . and he--my Neuro--contacted several other Neuros as well). I took it in combination with Benadryl to try to combat a 5 *week* long migraine (from weeks 16-21). It really made a difference!

@78h2o: I'm not pg or nursing, but I get migraines and take Relpax (Eletriptan), which is on the no-no list. My RE and my PCP said that once I'm pregnant I could take Fioricet instead.

5 week migraine?! Good Lord!!!! Did they try a steroid? That usually works for me if I've had one for longer than 2-3 days.

@78h2o: No steroids . . . it was a rough patch during my pregnancy for sure. Although, once I started swelling at 26ish weeks, I quickly forgot about my migraine!
