Hi! I've been pumping breastmilk for my twins for 5 plus months now and am in the process of slowly weaning off the pump! I've had several clogged ducts over the course of pumping and just got one again :(. I'm terrified of getting more and have read that lecithin helps. Has anyone taken it? Was it helpful?

I take lecithin- I had clogged ducts and 2 rounds of mastitis. I talked to a lactation consultant and she suggested trying it. After I started I didn't have any more issues but not sure if it was the lecithin or something else. I first bought it at Whole Foods but then found it in my local supermarket for a lower price. I figured taking it couldn't hurt anything.

@COmom: Thanks! I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any more issues since. I just picked up a bottle today and hope to have the same results!

I know this is an old post but I just wanted to rekindle it to see if anyone else has some insights to share!
After battling my 4th blocked duct in less than a month, I have just started taking a lecithin supplement and have my fingers crossed so tightly that it will work as blocked ducts are ridiculously painful!
Anyone else have any experiences with lecithin? Did it work for you, and if so, how soon did you see a decrease in blocked ducts?

Bumping! I keep getting clogged ducts and it's killing my supply. Has this worked for anyone?

Yes!! It worked for me! At first, i took it as a "treatment" but I kept getting them. So I took it every day and never got another plugged duct again. Would highly recommend. I used sunflower lecithin.

@babypugs: I used sunflower lechitin as well and had success. My lactation consultant said 4 tablets per day until it's resolved and then 2 per day for a few days. She also also advised to use moist heat, massage, and to hand express while submerged under water.

It definitely helps to clear clogs but not sure about prevention. I have still gotten a couple since I started taking it so it doesn't completely prevent them but if I increase the dose it will clear very quickly.

YES! Sunflower lechithin is great for prevention. I took either 3 or 4 capsules a day, I can't remember....but if I skipped one, I got a plugged duct the very next day.
In my case, lechithin never helped me clear a plug - it was 100% for prevention, but it absolutely worked.

I used sunflower lecithin for prevention and thought it worked great. I had mastitis 1 week postpartum and then started taking it daily after that. Never had a clogged duct or any issues once I started taking it.

@babypugs: Yes!! I took like 4 at a time when I got a clogged duct. It was gone within a couple hours with nursing and massaging. I then took one a day and now I am still taking it while I am weaning so I don't get clogged up.

Yes!! I'm very prone to clogged ducts the first few months of pumping (so annoying), even if I pump and nurse regularly. Lecithin def helps!

Yes! Success story here too. I had half a dozen clogged ducts in the first three months or so, even though I felt like I was doing everything right! My LC recommended lecithin according to KellyMom's directions, and I didn't have a single one after that!
