I'm about to post a job on care.com to find a nanny for when I go back to work.
Tell me about your experience with finding child care with care.com. Was it successful? Did you pay for the premium subscription?

My SIL just did this to find an afterschool nanny.
Definitely look at the background checks. They had narrowed it down to like 2 people. Both said they were open to background checks.
When my SIL did the check, one of the girls came back with some things on her record! I guess she figured no one would actually look at it?
Obviously they hired the other girl and have been REALLY happy with her.

I didn't find a nanny through it, but I worked as a nanny and got jobs through it. I think it's a great option.
I always asked potential families to do an interview in a public place before going to their home. You can tell a lot about a person by a one-on-one interview.

I used it to find a babysitter to come one day a week. I posted a job and got 30 responses, most of which didnt even give me any of the info I asked for! I did get 2 good responses and interviewed them, then chose one and she has been great! I paid for the premium for a month.

@Thehistoryofus: oh wow. Yes I will definitely look at background check. My mom even suggested to me to do my own and not rely completely on the one on the website.
@Arden: I didn't consider first mtg in a public place. Thanks for the tip!

We used it to look for a nanny but ultimately chose to go with a friend who unexpectedly became available. I second checking the backgrounds, while we didn't find anything in the ones we checked it is possible.

I did. We found the best nanny in the world on Care and I think we went with the premium subscription for one month.

@mrskc: I always meet families (I usually ask that both the parents come if possible) in a place like a coffee shop, and if we both feel good about it, I come to the house for a second interview and to meet the kid(s).
It puts both the parents and me more at ease, and I think it's safer.

Another website is sittercity.com - I actually found a babysitting job when I was in law school on that site!

I was a nanny and families found me through there. I would now consider using it for my LO.

I've found several nanny jobs on Care.com. I've put profiles on Sittercity and Aupair, and I've gotten way more responses on Care.
The first job I had, they ran their own background check, too.
I second meeting in a public place. It made me feel so much more safe for the first interview.
