I feel like I always hear about flanges being too small, but not too big. My whole aureola and nipple get sucked into my flange with a good amount of space on either side. I use 24s. Any flange pros out there have a good explanation (or link to) proper flange fit?

@maybebaby: I took this pic of my breast pump manual. It sounds like they are too big if your entire areola is being drawn in, but I am definitely not an expert!

@maybebaby: that is a really good picture. My flanges were too big so I ended up using the 21m but so many people told me I needed to go bigger, no one said smaller. I figured it out on my own. Good luck

@maybebaby: I had to go down a size because of the same reason. They made a HUGE difference in the comfort and the output. The only problem is that no store sells them - I always had to order them from amazon if I needed more. I hope it helps you out!

So weird perhaps for me to post in this, since I haven't pumped in about a year (!!!!) and I am done nursing, but man, mine were WAY too big for me. Oops!

The right fit will DEFINITELY change your production. Once i got the correct size for mine (the standard ones weren't working for me), it definitely improved.

@lawbee11: I hate those pictures because who's nipple is that big?! I mean, maybe I just have ridiculously small nipples but they in no way come close to fitting in the flanges like the pictures show! Tell me I'm not alone in that.
@maybebaby: I had to go smaller. I had to order it online though because no store sold the smalls. It is certainly less painful but I can't tell yet if it effected my output.

@maybebaby: The 24s were too big for me too, and even with the 21s, I feel like more of my aerola is being pulled in than should, but it DEFINITELY feels like a better fit than the 24s and is a better fit, although probably not perfect. I hope the 21s work for you!

The 24s were too small for me but the 27s do pull my aerial in the flanges.......

@Adira: @Smurfette: @maybebaby: It kinda makes me lol that, for all of the advances of pumping (double electric, portable, hands free, oh my!!!), that the manufacturers don't make basic plastic funnels (flanges) in more sizes . . . it's totally like two steps forward, one step back! /facepalm!

@MsLipGloss: for reals. Isn't there something called pumping pals (TERRIBLE NAME!!) that are more customizable? I may look into those is 21s don't work out.
