Did you find them essential? Or, were you able to make do with regular wide neck/v neck shirts/dresses?

Tanks yes, tops no. Because you can wear a tank under a regular shirt and just pull the shirt up and the tank down to nurse.

I really liked the tanks for the first two months. After that, I preferred nursing bras, as u felt I needed more support. I do have a bravado nursing tank that I still like a lot. But the target ones I bought stretched out, now I just wear them to bed. Nursing tops were never very useful, I find them. To not be very flattering.

Bras yes - tanks and tops no. ESP tanks. If you wear a nursing bra under I found that was way too many clips to deal with.
I swear by the tami tanks from old navy. You can pull them down and they hold their shape. I wear one almost every day

4.5 months pp and i'm still living in nursing tanks! they are my favorite because they keep you warm and they're so easy to layer with. i could have lived without my nursing bra because i get cold easily and again, the tanks keep you warm. i dislike nursing tops because they make you look boxy.

@Pepper: yes ! I originally ordered a large and they are too big. I'm in a M now. I'm 5'5" 126lb and 36E they are really awesome and cheap. Wish I wouldn't have spent money on nursing tanks! I wear a clip down bra under them and they pull right down under my boob and never ever stretch out !

I wore a nursing tank under almost everything for at least 7 months. I switched to a nursing bra at about 8 months. I love the bravado ones from Target.

@coacheswife123: @Pepper: Yes! I also use old navy camis for nursing. I wear them under everything, works great.

@Arden: yep!
I wore tanks/nursing tanks under everything. any shirt I attempted to pull the neck down was ruined by stretching out the neck over and over and I wasn't a fan of lifting up and exposing my postpartum belly.

@coacheswife123: @Arden: Just ordered 5 of them online! Thanks for the tip! $5-$8 a tank, can't beat that!

@Pepper: @Arden: @coacheswife123: Which ON tanks did you like? I'm not seeing anything that looks particularly easy to nurse with but I think I'm just missing something.

@coacheswife123: Oh- duh-- I thought that was a typo! Weird they didn't show up until I specifically searched for Tami, so tanks!

Another great option is the wet seal camis. They are super stretchy and awesome for nursing. 5 for $20 - can't beat that!

I liked to have a few nursing tops for when I knew I'd be feeding either in public or in near-public (church nursery where people walk in all the time) and knew I wanted it to be really easy. I rarely wear them at home.

I wear regular tanks & regular tops... I have 1 nursing tank that I did wear in the beginning (especially to bed) but I haven't worn it in months! My favorite tanks are the Liz Lange maternity tanks at Target & the Old Navy tami's... they both stretch to pull down but keep their shape well (Liz Lange keeps better but both still work). I wear regular shirts too & either pull it up with a tank under it I pull down or find some that easily pull down. The only thing I've found really "necessary" is a nursing bra.

I wear tanks under everything. That way I can just lift up my shirt but the tank is still covering me during a feeding. I wear a bra with them cause otherwise the girls don't have enough support.

Tanks - yes! Tanks and long cardigans were my uniform in the first months.

@coacheswife123: when I wear nursing tanks, I don't wear a bra underneath. The tank is the bra. But I'm pretty small-chested compared to most bfing moms.
I prefer the tanks to the bras. I wear a Bravado Basics Felicity nursing tank (from Target) under all my pre-preg tops and they work great! I have done the bra/tank/top combo, too, and it works as well. Just more pieces.

for me, nursing tanks YES, nursing bras and shirts, not as much.
i didn't wear a bra under the nursing tank either --- i think that's how they are meant to be? just a disposable breast pad.
i do think you need at least one nursing bra though, for those times when you need more support, etc.

Tanks yes esp for the early days when supply and size fluctuates no to tops, regular clothes work just fine

20 months PP and I haven't worn a nursing top in over a year. Except for this one cute one from Japanese Weekend that I'm just keeping in my normal rotation - forever. But I don't care about modesty - I just yank my shirt down and go for it. Tanks and shirts are better for keeping mostly covered.

Nursing tanks - yes! LO is 15 months and I only wear nursing tanks. I like that they cover my stomach so I can wear any shirt

I wore a nursing bra with a cami and then a normal shirt.

I had a couple in the beginning, but quickly learned ANY shirt and a nursing bra works just fine! I think the nursing bra is essential vs tanks or specifically designed nursing apparel...although towards the end sports bra like bras worked just as good as nursing ones

@coacheswife123: Yes! those tami tanks are awesome! I wore them when I was pregnant and I like them for nursing too.
I lived in nursing tanks for the first few months. That was my maternity wardrobe. Sweat pants and nursing tank. I still wear my nursing tanks at home and even when I go out. I don't wear a bra underneath though. Nursing tops I would skip though. You can just wear a nursing tank with a shirt over or wear a nursing bra and stretchy neckline shirt.

Tanks absolutely, tops no. I also now have a wardrobe full of button down shirts.

I wore nursing tanks for like 8 months, both alone and under regular shirts. I also slept in them.

I loved my bravado tanks for sleep and lounging around, so comfy. I wore a nursing bra with a normal tank under a normal shirt. Tank goes down, shirt goes up.

I HATE nursing tanks and bras. Bought 2 of each, loathe the tanks and very rarely wear the bras. I like non-nursing shelf bras (way easier to pull up or down with one hand, faster to get to the booby than undoing a clip) and plain ole seamless camis (super easy to pull down, mine are from the Limited and come in a million colors). Also the seamless camis fit whether you have a pregnant belly or a skinny one. I bought nursing tanks to fit in the awkward postpartum time and now they're baggy.

I have seven nursing tanks all of the same style and I have LIVED in them for the last seven months! When I'm home I usually just wear a tank and nursing bra (I'm a G cup!), when it's cold I throw on a cardigan and when I'm out I just wear a normal shirt / top over my tank.
