Our daycare asks that the kids not wear open-toe shoes. They also prefer the kids wear sneakers but they know that isn't always possible. I know some schools are a lot stricter with not allowing characters on shirts or even uniforms. What are your childcare clothing rules?

Same - no crocs or flip flops. Otherwise, I don't think there are any limitations.

Just closed toe. They also prefer that girls wear biker shorts under dresses to their panties aren't exposed but it isn't a rule.

None right now but the preschool (next level up at our daycare) doesn't allow character clothing, hats, or open toed shoes.

@Mamaof2: I wish I knew. I'd say about 75% of mornings, my LO refuses to wear anything unless it has Minnie Mouse or Anna/Elsa on it. They actually tried to institute a full uniform policy earlier this year but the parents complained so much that they cancelled that plan. I'll probably ask about the character thing when she's ready to move up.

They're supposed to wear closed toe shoes. And I heard a pre-k teacher tell a little girl she wasn't allowed to wear a necklace she had on, which I thought was weird.

I don't even think ours has rules about the shoes, but Xander always wears sneakers, so maybe it's just never come up before.

No character clothing and closed toe shoes only. They have a "uniform" (really its just a logo t-shirt) for when they do field trips to make the kids easy to identify.

No jewelry and all kids must change out of their street shoes into some sort of indoor shoes. Most of the kids wear those soft soled leather slippers (Robeez style).

@Mamaof2: our preschool's rationale is that it is too distracting.
Closed-toe, well fitting shoes. No jewellery. Shorts under dresses/skirts. No licensed characters on clothing. No light up beeping shoes. No ornate headbands/ties.

C isn't in school or daycare yet, but the preschool she will go to if we stay in this neighborhood has a uniform- the school polo shirt and khaki shorts/ pants/ skirt, even for the toddler program that starts at 18 months!
@ShootingStar: I would guess a necklace could be considered a choking/ strangulation hazard? I let my toddler wear them but only when I'm with her. I could see wanting to be extra careful in a group setting.

LOs school wears uniforms Monday-Thursday. The requirements are pretty lax as long as they are some version of a polo in a neutral color and navy or khaki bottoms. But jumpers are fine, polo dresses, etc.

@Foodnerd81: Well I can see that for a 2 year old. I think the girl was in the pre-k room though so she's probably about 4. Oh well, something to keep in mind later!
