My MIL is visiting for a few days and I'm pretty certain I'm going to just breastfeed without a nursing cover because it's more convenient that way, plus, I've never even used mine before! Thing is, after I nurse my baby, I like to air-dry my nipples and let them hang for a bit before putting them away. I'm dealing with cracked/painful nipples at the moment! So, just wondering if you ladies would feel comfortable enough being so open with your MILs. I guess it depends, but I'd like to know all the same!

I don't breastfeed so it might be different when I do but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. I am a very private person.

I breastfeed without a cover (now that I'm a pro). When my MIL was visiting I used the same technique I use when out: two shirts, pull one up, pull the other down. I would not feel comfortable air-drying my nipples in front of MIL or anyone else, except my husband. I'd just do the whole nursing session in private if I had to air dry.

nope. my MIL isn't staying with us, so I don't foresee having to really deal with it - but, she lives in the other half of our duplex, so I'll be locking doors whenever I need to BF just in case. lol.

I will most likely BF in front of MIL but I do not think I could every feel ok airing out my nipples in front of her. My sister will most likely see alot of nipple but other then her and DH I do not feel comfortable having my nipples out in front of people.

No. I won't even feel comfortable breastfeeding in front of her. When my in laws come I will go to my bedroom or the nursery to breastfeed.

I think I probably won't feel comfortable bf'ing in front of any in-laws. We generally visit them since they live far away so I would go someplace private. I usually welcome a break from them though so I think it'll work out

I feel comfortable breastfeeding in front of my MIL. I got over my modesty real quickly once I start bfing. I do it in front of my friends and family without a cover, unless there are guys in the group then I throw a blanket over my shoulder so they aren't uncomfortable. The exceptions to this rule so far are my DH and my dad. I don't think I would be comfortable air-drying though.

Yeah, I don't think I'd be comfortable air-drying in front of my mum, never mind my MIL (not that I have a baby yet, so I may feel differently when I do!) But I would feel comfortable asking her to go and read a book in another room or something - rather than creep off to the nursery to do it!! My house, my rules - just don't look at the nipples! lol.

i would definitely air dry in front of my mom, but not in front of my mil. i'd feel super comfortable bf'ing in front of her, but just letting my boobs hang out there... no way! it's surprising how many women just don't care though. i work with new moms a couple times a week in the hospital, and they just sit on the bed topless while i'm in the room photographing baby.

I would have been but my MIL was not so I just went to the nursery. Yes, it meant she complained that I was keeping her grandson from her but it is one or the other and she just had to deal with it.

At this point with my MIL I could care less. At 18 weeks I had a massive hemmorage and DH was out of town working so I had to get her to bring me to the hospital. She refused to leave the room while they did my pelvic (I was MORTIFIED), so she's seen my vajay. To make it more awkward she then proceeded to tell me about her extra-posterior cervix and how they have to use a longer speculum on her...
So yeah, her seeing one of my nipples isn't even on the list of things that would embarass me anymore.

No. I'm so uncomfortable with it that I don't even want her coming to stay with us after the baby is born. The whole idea just freaks me out.

Yes. If it was in my house, I would totally bf in front of her. I would not air the girls out, though. I suggest maybe wearing pads while she's there, cover up and then go in another room if you want to air out?

And even breastfeeding, I think I would do the whole nursing bra thing where most my breast is still covered and my shirt if pulled down or to the side....not up to bare my belly.You can always finish nursing....then hand the baby off to her to burp...and tell her you need to do what you need to do in your bedroom or bathroom. She's a woman...I'm sure she'll understand and she would probably love to burp her grand-baby and spend that time with him/her.

well, i think my situation is different - i breastfeed in front of my MIL but she was staying with us for a few months so from the beginning, i knew i'd better get comfy.

yup. You do what you have to do. I brought a nursing cover to LOs first Nationals (baseball) game... but it was too hot and he was going to get dehydrated and kept refusing the boob. So I had to nurse him with no cover in front of 40,000 people.
MIL is nothing! Well.... I actually BF in front of all my family and anyone I'm hanging out with if it's just one or two friends.
I don't air out without a cover though--sometimes I put a cover to air out, and burp LO with the nipple "out" but hiding... -
I did. For, I was so modest pp I wouldn't let anyone in at my ultrasound because I didn't want them seeing my belly. After LO came, her and my needs trumped modesty and I would nurse and air out in front of her no problem.

I wouldn't have cared when I was still breastfeeding. Pretty sure everyone saw them at some point. I personally didn't care about other people's comfort at the time. I was in such a fog for the first couple of months, I just whipped them out when it was needed. I didn't become more modest until my 3rd month, but he went on strike and we stopped altogether. I guess even my kid was tired of seeing my boobs.

yes, I'm pretty open about nursing in front of most people (except usually teenage boys, they are just sooo uncomfortable with it) and my in laws are very pro-BF so it was no big deal. I just tried to be discreet, like in front of anyone other than my husband.

I was self conscious in the beginning but now I don't care if she sees me nursing. Actually, now she thinks it is weird that I am nursing for over 6 months and wants me to quit...so I prob won't be doing it around her anymore.

I did. With my twins I jus had to do it in front of people. All my family and m husbands. I guess I just got over it. I think now. Am pretty good and being discreet.

Right now, no way, but I'm hoping once I get the hang of it that it won't bother me so much. Otherwise, when she visits I will be in my room the whole time!

I don't have kids, but I really actually dread BFing infront of others. I don't even think I would infront of my mom! Maybe I will get over it after I actually have a baby, but at this point I feel like I will hide out to do it.

No way. I don't particularly like my MIL, so I really liked pretending I was too shy to nurse in front of her and sneak off to the bedroom. Sometimes just for the feeding and sometimes (most times!) for much longer. However, I nursed freely infront of my mom, dad, and sister.

Nope, she didn't BF and has made some negative comments about it, so I'm especially sensitive about feeding in front of her. It makes me really hate when she's visiting though because I have to keep retreating to the nursery to feed LO.

Yup. I have no modesty left though, and I'm really close to her. Plus she was there when DS was born...like *there*.
