Or at what age do you plan to start them in sports or dance/music lessons (activities other than open gym classes and mommy-and-me music)?
A friend with a first grader said her son started several different sports when he turned 3. That seems kind of early to me, but I've definitely seen a bunch of little guys out on the tee ball field, and they looked like they were loving it!
I'm not ready to become a soccer mom yet!

I was just thinking about when I was going to enroll my son in soccer. He's a natural, he began kicking around a ball pretty much as soon as he's been able to walk, so I think it would be something he enjoys. He's 2.5.
I tried swimming at around a year, he seemed to hate it, so we stopped.

At the moment we might explore ballet/gymnastics at 3. Based off how limber she is I think she will enjoy that. Or piano...she loves her M&D piano!
DH wants to sign her up for archery at some point.....

I want to sign up my daughter for dance around 3 then when she is a little older I will intoduce an insrument as well

We started Mandarin around 2.5 y.o. She just turned 3 and will be doing swim lessons over the summer. She has been begging me for ballet lessons so I will enroll her for the fall.

We plan to start either soccer this fall or tball next spring. Whatever he decides he wants to play. Both if he wants to. He'll be 4.

we just started karate at 3 1/2, but we've only been to one class so far. most of charlie's friends have already tried soccer or swimming. soccer starts at 2 here. we really need to enroll him in swimming soon too!

We did swimming at 2 years old and he just started soccer. He is intoeing (pidgeon toed) and I want him to start strengthening his leg muscles. And I can't find a gymnastics program I like in SoCal. At 3 he will start Suzuki Violin and dance probably.

@regberadaisy: it has been ok. They go really slow since they are still young so DD has been really bored. The next class in the fall should pick up speed so then I hope she will enjoy it more.

Ellie wasn't very interested and many activities didn't mesh well with her earlier bedtime. She didn't start doing much until she was five. Now she takes riding lessons and is saving up money to buy her own horse! I think one pro of waiting is that it is easier to find something that they will love, rather than just you choosing activities, because their likes and talents are a little more solidified and they can verbalize better what interests them.

Last night, I was told to do early music classes with LO around 2 years old. I'm thinking that's what we'll do. I can't wait to get LO into some fun classes to explore sports, music, or other interests.

@regberadaisy: no they just learn basic words. numbers. animals. body parts. family members. some action words. stuff like that.

We just had DD's first gymnastics lesson today! She turned three on Saturday, and that was the gym's cutoff, so she had to wait until after her birthday. I think we'll continue with just this one activity until she starts to show interest in other areas, and then we'll reevaluate. I doubt we'll ever enroll her in more than 2 activities at a time, though; she'll get language, music, and art at school next year, so we'll only enroll her in physical activities/sports.

We started DD in ballet/tap at 2 and she was not ready so we quit. Some of the little girls were, however. We picked up gymnastics when she turned 4 and she likes it a lot. She starts swimming today (almost 5 yr old now), and we plan to find a piano teacher this summer. This fall, she will go to Chinese school. I think we are going to stop at that, it's already a lot. Swimming and Chinese I don't even consider an extracurricular, they are a necessity (safety and our heritage).
DS (21 mo) I'm going to start swimming in a few weeks in a Mommy and Me class.

With my older gal, we started parented swimming lessons at about 8 months, and did it when it fit in our schedule, but really started to focus on swimming last fall, and she has done 3 sessions since then. She is signed up for two more sessions over the summer! She started ballet in the winter as well, which is over now for the summer, but we intend to continue that this fall. She is currently 3.5 years old...
