I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this? D chokes/gags after his feeding. I've tried to google it, but everything I find is people offering suggestions for overactive letdown, but that's not the problem here. This is once he's done eating. Like, he'll fall asleep at the boob, then all of a sudden he's gagging/choking. I quickly sit him up, but he rarely spits up or even burps. He does the same thing when Hubs gives him a bottle. It's usually a few minutes after he stops sucking. It's really scary! He makes this horrible high-pitched noise and seems like he can't get a breath; his face gets all contorted - it looks like it hurts! He always recovers quickly - looks a little bewildered but not terribly bothered by it. And usually falls back asleep quickly or wants to get back to eating. Anybody else?

Sounds like reflux. It can be silent i.e. no spitting up. I'd tell your ped about it.

I agree that it sounds like silent reflux. One thing to try is to hold him vertical for a while after eating.

Yup sounds like reflux. We have been dealing with it for the last 22 months. We see a pediatric GI and they are amazing! I hope you can get it under control quickly and your LO can get some comfort.

Yup M does this too. It's reflux. Talk to your ped. He will likely suggest keeping baby upright during and after each feeding. They can prescribe Zantac but my ped is really against meds unless the baby isn't gaining weight or is inconsolable from being in pain.

Sadie does this, but without the high pitched noises. After she eats, I sit her up for a few minutes, and sometimes she will choke a little and coughs a few times, but then she quickly passes right back out into her milk coma. My ped said as long as she doesn't seem like she's in pain and there's no projectile vomit, she's fine & it's normal. For us it's not a problem, but if you're worried I would definitely ask your ped!
