Hi all,
DH and I had an evening out for the first time and grandma babysat. LO is 6mo. Apparently he cried the entire time off and on. As soon as we got home he was happy and back to himself. Has anyone else’s LO been through this? Is it likely a phase or more temperamental? I’m thinking I’m going to have to start bringing LO around grandma more as she’s our sitter when I go back to work!

Aww poor baby & grandma- that must have been rough for her too.
My LO took a couple days to adjust going to daycare at 3 months. I could tell by his red eyes he cried or at least didn’t nap well among new people when I picked him up. The first time I left him alone with my mom was when he was 3 months. I already left for work in the morning and hers was the only face she saw when he woke up. She said there were no tears. Could you try something like that?

@MsBAM: I think six months is a pretty typical time for separation anxiety to start. I think your approach of more grandma time is what I would do too, but also I would guess that when things are in more of a routine for work that lo will be fine. I would just try to brace for an adjustment period.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I was told that he kept looking up at her all night and then would start bawling because he was expecting to see us. We are definitely going to have to keep having more visits... and maybe next time a shorter night out (we were gone 3 hours). On top of that he was tired, refused to drink his first bottle (he’s BF) but then drank some of the second bottle.
@2littlepumpkins: I feel like his separation anxiety started early (around three months). He would cry when other people held him and still does. I tell people he needs time to warm up. Then he’s usually fine as long as we’re around too.

This is normal. Grandma watched LO and he cried. She will be watching him when I return to work too! My mom lives in another state so it is definitely harder to bring around often. When she comes into town I play with LO around her and hang out with him as she holds him. This has helped a lot. It could have been that he was overtired as well? Separation anxiety can develop earlier per my doc too. I’d just bring baby around her more and do a shorter visit or hang out in another room for alittle while she’s there.

I think it's good that grandma will be watching him and you can work on them having more time together before you go back to work.
My second and third have been very clingy with me. Our preschool is a coop and there were a few times that I had to leave them on my day working and they both would pretty much cry the entire morning. My second started last year 2 mornings a week and he cried a lot and was just not himself all last year. It's just harder for some kids. The good news is that both my clingy kids are fine when my mom babysits. I think have grandma will really help you. Hope it's just a short term problem!

From about 5 months until 18 months, DD cried for everyone but me, DH, one daycare teacher, and my mom. She HATED my dad and all babysitters. Since 18 months she's been great, though!

I think that's pretty normal, but it's hard. 
Having her see him more often before she starts watching him should help. Our first was super sensitive and had a really hard time when other people watched her. At times there were a lot of tears. She eventually outgrew it. It's hard it the meantime though!
