My husband and I got invited on a last minute vacation. It's extremely not baby friendly, snowmobiling. So I'm wondering how to work this? Should I nurse every 3 hours like at daycare? What about at night? When we are together J nurses every 2-3 hours all day. We will be gone 4 days.

Are you bringing your baby? I'm confused because you asked if you should nurse every 3 hours - unless you meant pump?
How old is your baby? Is she/he eating solids regularly? -
We are headed on a 4 day ski trip sans baby next weekend...I'm going to continue our regular pumping schedule and store the milk in bags with ice packs in a cooler. How many times a day do you pump when he's at daycare? I would be inclined to pump that plus however many times he nurses when he's with you. I personally would probably skip a MOTN pump if you have any and enjoy the sleep but that might be terrible advice for your supply! (FWIW missing a pump session now and then has never hurt my supply but I know everyone is different)

@californiadreams: @char54: We normally feed 1 in the am, I pump 4 times during daycare and then 2 before bed then he nurses 3-4 times overnight. =\ on work days my nurse/pump schedule is n1am, n4am, n6:30am, p9:30am, p12, p2:30pm, p4:15, n5:30pm, n7pm, n10pm ISH. Sooo my guess I need to pump all these times? That's my question I guess. I don't need the milk and will probably imbibe because I won't have a baby
but I don't want to screw up my supply, he nurses exclusively 3 days per week.

If you really don't want to mess up your supply, I would pump each time you would have pumped/nursed if you were on your regular routine. I might skip the overnight pumps just bc it's hard to get up in the middle of the night and pump, but definitely try to pump throughout the day. I'm not sure how old your baby is, but since you will be away for a few days, I would make sure to pump frequently so as not to decrease your supply.

@jetsa: wow that sounds like a lot of pumping to do on vacation! and you have someone who is willing to wake up and prepare bottles 2-3 times per night for 4 nights? i am impressed.
I looked back at your posts and saw your baby is just over 4 months now? that does seem quite young to be leaving him for 4 days, hmmm. i am inclined to say it might be easier and better for the baby to either decline the vacation OR bring him with you! would be easier on you too to not have to pump so much. You will probably spend less time pumping than you would nursing your baby. Not to mention that your baby would probably wonder where the heck his mother went for 4 days!

You'll have to pump every time you'd nurse LO or risk supply. Are you able to pump enough to meet J's needs during the week? I'd be worried that the pump wouldn't be as efficient and you'd have supply issues upon coming home.
Is there anyway the baby can come with you? -

as far as volunteers family has been wanting to keep him for months they think I should have done this a long time ago.

@oliviaoblivia: I pump an extra time during work to meet his needs. Some days I pump all he needs in 3 sessions other times it takes 4 sessions. I guess the good thing is I'll get back and we'll nurse/pump for a few days and then I'll be home with him for 3 days so my supply will re-regulate.

@californiadreams: I think it's quite harsh to say OPs LO will wonder where she is...(it's. 4 days, not a month). I left my dd at 3 months for 5 days.., she was well cared for by family who was ecstatic to spend time with her. She definitely didn't feel abandoned and it didn't negatively affect our bond (or long term supply).
@jetsa: I would pump as often as you can without it interfering with your fun on your trip . When I went away I only pumped 3x a day compared to our usual 5. When I got home and back on schedule it regulated back out.

@jetsa: I would pump every 3 hrs during the day and pump right before you go to bed and whenever you wake up bc your boobs are killing you (for me this would be around 4 am, but I always fell back asleep!) then maybe plan on a nurse-in as soon as you can when you get back to make sure your supply isn't affected.
Have fun! And it's a personal preference but I wouldn't dump milk unless I was intoxicated. But hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

@char54: I didn't mean to be harsh. I just honestly cannot imagine leaving a 4 month old, EBF, baby for 4 days. It feels too young. I suppose at that that age they don't have separation anxiety or anything yet - I would probably have it more than my baby would have! But I was on mat leave for the first year so I was with my baby 24/7.

@californiadreams: FWIW, I don't think you were harsh at all and I completely agree w/your previous comment. I couldn't imagine leaving my 4 month old for that long, either. But then again, I haven't left my 23 month old yet so I think I'm definitely not the norm!

i would do the same as @dagret: for a 4 month old! especially because i was a leaky mess at that age for DD! sounds like you'll have a blast! i was away for work for 1 night when DD was around 5 months and i actually got less sleep than when i was with her because i stayed up late enjoying myself and got up early super engorged and having to pump!

I think if you pump every time you would pump at work or nurse you will be fine. If you are worried about your supply you could rent a hospital grade pump - those things suck you dry! Added benefit is that they are faster than a regular pump so you'll have more time to enjoy yourself.
No need to pump & dump unless you are two sheets to the wind, either. Even then, rather than waste breastmilk I'd just label it and dilute it with "clean" milk.
