BLW, or not. When and how did you introduce beams to your LO?
I'm a vegetarian (DH is not) so beans are a big protein source for me. I almost always have a can of black beans in the pantry. Wondering when I can share with LO?

@cmomma17: we offered hummus maybe at 6.5 m and smooshed whole beans shortly after. I'm not sure if canned beans have too much salt though? I do dried.

@scg00387: do you make your own hummus? I loooove hummus. I have had a lot of dry bean fails so I usually do canned. Any tips?

7ish months, I think? We just bought low sodium canned beans and rinsed them well. Beans are one of our major go-to foods for LO.

@cmomma17: recently, so around 7.5-8 months. I buy them in bulk from whole foods and then soak and cook them with a little salt and some sauteed onions - he LOVES them. They're super soft, and he eats one at a time.
I would give my son canned beans as well, I would just either get organic or make sure the can lining is BPA-free.

At that age, I would cook them, then smoosh them and add a little breastmilk or formula to make them less goopy. I didn't do whole beans until later and then always cut in half.

We don't eat a lot of beans, so I still haven't given them to her. But I have been looking for different protein sources, so maybe I should look into it!

@cmomma17: yep it's easy. I roughly follow 1 cup brand - 2 tbsp tahini - 1 tbsp olive oil - 2 tsp o flavoring. So regular hummus I do chickpeas/garlic/lemon juice. Or black beans/cumin/red pepper. Just blend it all together. For dry beans I soak overnight in the crockpot, drain, recover and cook all day in the crock on low. We're not fussy on texture so I just check very once in a while until they're softish. (I boil kidney beans first on the stove bc of some toxin in them). I do a whole box of beans. at once and then freeze in Pyrex
.@Smurfette: I give it to him on bread, a tortilla, or just in a lump. He gobbles it up.

@scg00387: Thanks! I will try it this weekend, so far R has no interest except for Mum Mums if she has to feed herself. So trying to do different things to see if we find something that works.

@Smurfette: my LO loves spices. Some of his fav finger foods are hummus, blueberries, banana, plums, squash with cinnamon, and zucchini with garlic

Maybe 7 months i started giving him black beans. He loves them! He'll eat them as a snack. I use canned(I've also had no luck making beans) and just rinse really well.

@Weagle: do you heat up the canned beans first? Or give then "cold"? It seems like such a quick and easy healthy option!

@cmomma17: right at the start; so 6m. The only thing we aren't doing before 1 yr is honey. We tried peanut butter at the pediatricians office. Everything else has been fair game.

@cmomma17: I heated them up a bit. I heated beans straight from the can grosses me out... Even though I know it doesn't matter.

@cmomma17: yup. I've never mushed them. He'd always been pretty good about chewing them(although I have found whole beans in his diaper). Also, I give them to him cold. He loves them to snack on.

@sarbear: Awesome thanks. I'm putting beans on my list to introduce soon! C doesn't have any teeth yet, but he's really good at picking things up so I think beans will at the very least entertain him
