I don't like the recipe that uses cream of mushroom soup. Does anyone have a link to a great recipe that doesn't use canned soup or canned green beans?
TIA!

Not a casserole, but my favorite green beans are cooked down with butter. I know you said no canned green beans, but I'm posting it just in case you change your mind.
Buy ten cans of whole (not cut) green beans (when they're reduced it won't seem like nearly as much). Drain them thoroughly. Saute some garlic with a stick of butter (preferably Kerry Gold). Add beans and stir frequently over medium heat. Keep cooking until they've darkened in color and reduced by at least half.
The result is buttery, garlicky deliciousness. You could substitute fresh beans, but just be aware that it will take a long time for them to cook down.

I found this recipe a while back. It fits your criteria AND it is a winner (so tasty!).
Side note - I make mine GF with GF flour. Tastes fantastic and no one knows the difference!!!
Homemade GB casserole
(* no canned beans or soup recipe)
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, rinsed, trimmed then halved
2 Tablespoons butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 cup chicken broth
1 1/4 cups half-and-half (or use whole milk)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup French's fried onions
INSTRUCTIONS
• Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
• Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
• In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook green beans for 5 to 7 minutes. Drain water. Pour cooked green beans in the prepared dish in an even layer.
• In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, melt butter. Once melted add garlic and stir for 30 seconds. Whisk in flour until smooth. Cook for 1 minute while constantly stirring.
Pour in chicken broth. Stir and cook for 3 minutes.
• Next, pour in half-and-half or whole milk. Decrease heat to low and continue to stir and cook until sauce thickens. About 10 minutes. Season sauce with salt and pepper.
• Pour sauce evenly over the green beans in dish. Sprinkle the fried onions on top.
• Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes. *Place a piece of tinfoil over the top the last 10 minutes to prevent onions from burning.*
• Remove from oven and let rest 5 minutes or so before serving.

@mediagirl: I love bacon, but half the adults at Thankgiving don't eat pork products.

I just steam fresh green beans and toss with lots of garlic cooked in olive oil. Sometimes I'll add mushrooms that I cooked with the garlic. It's such a hit that it's become my go-to (I'll add bacon some years too, but I'll cook the bacon separately and crumble on top)

Wow all these recipes look yum!!
I am NOT vegan but made this amazing green bean casserole dish that uses cashew milk. It was so creamy and delicious, and super healthy as far as green bean casseroles go. No one could tell the difference! It’s surprisingly become my go-to recipe for this dish, never thought it’d be vegan.

I ended up using this Bon Appetite version and although it’s a simple recipe, it was a hit. Literally the star is the table. https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/bas-best-green-bean-casserole
I made it as-is, but next time I might do a bit more garlic. But it was really fabulous with fresh green beans, and would also be good with the thin “haricot vertes” style green beans, too.
