Flash cards. Just the generic $2 kind from the grocery store. Go over them a couple times a day. My LO picked up things SO FAST after I started doing them. I'd go over the names of things, the colors, numbers and ABCs. He loves flashcard time.

My daughter loved these books and she could count to ten before she was eighteen months. Now she can count to twenty in English, ten in Spanish, and knows all her colors, most of her shapes and can sing the alphabet (although we're still working on recognizing all the letters.)
I would never have gotten her that colors book because it just seems boring, but they gave it to us at one of her pediatrician visits and she LOVED it. I would just try different things with your kid and see what they like! Doing something they enjoy is the easiest way to teach them.

Basically find any books that have alphabets, colors, and numbers beside real life pictures versus cartoon pictures. And be consistent with reading it to them and before you know it they will know all of them. Make it fun too. As a distraction tool to prevent my son from falling asleep in the car a few times (b/c we were so close to home) I asked him to recite numbers and letters after me and he really liked it for some reason.

definitely flash cards over books. charlie loves to put them back in the box so they're a toy and a learning tool.
charlie has three different sets in this series and loves them:
he's also still obsessed with the baby einstein alphabooks.

I've been doing a lot of research on this, the best things seem to be tactile, so I plan to buy some felt and make things. The thing with numbers is you also have to show them how many things make up the number 2, for example, so just showing them a "2" is only part of it.
There are a ton of blogs out there with inspiration, also check pinterest!
