If you did/are doing BLW, how do you cook and offer meat? My LO is 7 months and we've been doing a combo of purées and BLW. I want to introduce chicken in the next weeks, but not sure how to go about giving it to her in the BLW format.

Chicken specifically, I just would either pull some meat off the whole chicken, or if I made chicken breast I would cut it horizontally, so the grain fell apart for her. She's had chicken wings and ground chicken made into kind of a meatball stick and liked both of those too.

We found ground meat the easiest (and made us the least nervous because it wasn't stringy), so chicken meatballs or 'burger'. LO also had success with chicken sausage cut in very small pieces.

@Sapphiresun: @Mrs. Taco: Thanks, those are great ideas. Another question, did your LOs have teeth when they started eating meat? DD's teeth are nowhere in sight. (I always did puréed meet with my older LO, who didn't have teeth until he was 1).

@lamariniere: She did. I'm going to say we got her first teeth at 5/6 months? (I'm so bad at remembering this stuff!) But yes, at least the bottom two. I'd think even without teeth those options would be ok?
...you could always make some liver pate

I don't think my LO had molars really when she started meat. Ground turkey is a great alternative to chicken

We've given little chunks of ground turkey and little strips of chicken. She doesn't have teeth yet and she's ok. She does have the pincer grasp mostly down, so that helps.

I just shredded up really soft chicken, and she went to town. Don't forget some spice!

We did shredded chicken & pork and ground beef.

I would just pull off shreds from my plate. Before she got teeth, she would just gum it up and have no problem

Ground turkey and ground chicken.
Our LO is 7 months and she LOVES ground turkey seasoned with chili powder.

DD didn't have teeth until 9mths and we did meat from 6mths on. I agree with the PP's... Ground meats are perfect (meatballs, burgers, meat loaves, chunky meat sauces).
Shredded pieces hasn't been a hit for her, she prefers it sliced against the grain so when she "bites" down it falls apart in her mouth and then she can gum it up.

We do little patties of ground turkey or strips if chicken. I've also just taken some chix off the bone if we're eating rotisserie chix.

My LO has no teeth, I make him meatballs from beef, lamb or turkey mince (but more oblong shape so he can hold on to them), and they just come apart nicely in his mouth. He absolutely loves meat, it's his favourite thing!

LO really struggles with meat. No matter what, she spits it out. So far, she LOVES tofu though (cubed and baked or fried), and will sometimes eat shredded chicken or pork.
I've heard sausage works well, or ground meats

@redsmarties: uh ohhhh, maybe she's going to be a little vegetarian, like me!

mine had no teeth. I did shredded rotisserie chicken from the grocery store rotisserie because it is super soft! and easy peasy as an additional bonus.

I didn't start until 9 months, but I just cut the chicken into little pieces. LO had no teeth and loved chicken right away.

We started with pulled/shredded chicken, which is still one of her favorites. Ground meat in burgers or meatballs are also good-- she LOVES meatballs and spaghetti, it's so cute it's worth the mess (once in a while).

We also started with crockpot style soft chicken. Also ground beef-she really didn't take to meat at first but she warmed up to it

I think I puréed it first but then started offering shredded chicken soon after. To be honest she did best with meat on the bone, like ribs or chicken legs. She loved gnawing on steak too. I was paranoid about it at first but she handled it really well.
