So this is my bottle cleaning procedure: wash bottles in hot soapy water, rinse and then put in microwave sterilizer. I run the sterilizer through the microwave and then crack the lid so it's covering the bottles but not on tightly. Some bottles sit for 24 hours in the sterilizer. Is that okay? Do I need to rewash or resterlize the bottles right before I use them?

Oh geez, no! I don't think ther's any need to sterilize bottles after every. Nancy Holtzman from Isis Parenting (seriously check out her free webinars!!!) says you don't have to. I only wash with hot soapy water and sterilize maybe once a week. Don't make too much work form yourself or you will burn out faster.

I agree there is no need to sterilize daily! We sterilize 1-2 times per week.

I think it depends on the age of baby, from what I've read you can stop sterilising once you hit two months.

Wow!!!! That's intense! I've had 3 pedis tell me that unless they're preemies, you don't have to keep sterilizing (unless it makes you feel better, in which case, all the power to you!). My fav way is to rinse them out right after feeding, have a basin you use just for bottles and keep soapy water in it, pop bottle and pieces apart into soapy basin, when you have a moment or at the end of the day wash them with the bottle brush and put on drying rack, reassemble all the bottles in the morning when they've dried. Put through the dishwasher on 'sterilize' once every week or so. The bottle brush is where I'd wanna clean often, you can throw it in the dishwasher when you run it to try to keep it clean. Avent makes my fav brush.

I use a bottle brush and hot water to clean after each use along with the nipples. I sterilize a couple times a week in the Medela microwave bags.

I only sterilized once right when they came out of the package. I think ive done it like 2 other times in 8 months. I soak/wash in hot soapy water.

I just put everything on the top rack of dishwasher and wash!

@matador84: Us too! I read somewhere that "Boobs aren't sterile so bottles don't need to be either." I am all for as few steps as possible!

i sterilized the first month, but even that isn't necessary. i wasn't going to with olive at all, but then i did for the first month since she was a preemie.
i hand wash bottles with water and dish soap and that's it! i do boil the bottles before first use per the bottle's directions. and you're supposed to boil the nipples once in a while, but i never do that anymore. you just care less and less about those things as your kids get older or you have two kids.

I only boiled them the first time out of the package. My ped never told me any differently and I've only hand washed or top-rack washed since.
