How old is your baby and how is breastfeeding going?

R will be 6 months in just a few days! I can't believe how fast the time has gone in general. But I really can't believe I've almost made a big breastfeeding milestone. It's been pretty easy this time around - with the exception of a VERY spit uppy baby who likes to nurse a lot. And I can't eat dairy because the spit up is torrential. I'm not sure how long we will go. I'm not a warm and fuzzy breast feeder but it's convenient and free so at this point I'll take it month by month. R fortunately takes a bottle well, but I haven't tried formula yet.

@winniebee: Congrats on making it to six months!!! That's a HUGE accomplishment, especially with your diet restrictions AND having to wrangle a toddler half the time!
Logan just turned 6 months a week ago and we're still going strong! Everything has been easier this time around, from nursing to pumping! I'm hoping to make it to a year again.

H is 20 months on Monday and we are still nursing once a day! She asks for "milkies" every morning, so I don't know when our breastfeeding relationship will be over.

@avivoca: "Milkies!" That's adorable!!
@winniebee: @Adira: Congrats, ladies! I only dream of getting to where you all are.
Marcus is 11 weeks, and aside from some major hurdles in the first few weeks because he was so tiny, breastfeeding is going awesome. Now we're just working on spacing out his feedings some more. Aiming for 2.5-3 hour intervals during the day, but sometimes it can be a real challenge!

DD will be 8 mos on Monday and is still nursing 6-7x/day (2-3x/night). It's going well, but I wish she would start sleeping longer!!

C is 9.5 months and still nursing strong. Pumping at work has gone down hill though. Luckily his bottle intake at school has dropped from 15 oz to 10-12oz so I'm doing ok keeping up. Counting down the days till I can stop pumping at work!

20 mo and still nursing 4-5x a day. I'm newly preggo though, so we will see what happens next. So far, so good.

K is 6 mo today and I honestly had to pat myself on the back that we made it this far! I'm currently battling another supply dip. Last time I pumped twice at home so I'd still have extra to put away. Now I really just pump once to have enough... I don't have the time/energy to add to my stash anymore! I just hope I can somewhat maintain it.

DD2 is 9 months and we're doing pretty good! Pumping output has decreased but I'm taking measures to bring it up. So far by adding solids for lunch while she's atdaycare is making up for the 2oz I'm short. But otherwise my supply is good. Looking forward to a year so I can stop pumping! After that we'll switch to milk of some kind at daycare and nurse when we're together. Will follow her lead on weaning or if I get pregnant. Whichever comes first.

K will be 6 months in a week and it's s going really well! I'm not necessarily adding to my stash though, but it's only going down by 2 or 3 ounces a week, so there still looks to be more than enough to last for a least a few more months at this rate.

My guy is 2.5 weeks old. When they brought him out of the newborn nursery to re-join me after delivery they called him a little barracuda. We are lucky he has a good latch and coordinated suck.
Nursing on demand about every 2-3hours. Up a pound at his 2 week weigh-in!

DS is 5.5 months and so far- so good. Our goal is a year but who knows what could happen in the meantime.

I just made my goal of 2 years BFing. LO turned 2 yesterday. I am super grateful!

DD Is 8.5 months still ebf and we've been slowly introducing solids. She loves nursing so I'm not sure when we'll wean. Hoping to go to a year and not opposed to wake up and bedtime nursing for as long as she'd like.

LO is 11 days old, and breastfeeding is going great so far! She came almost two weeks early, but they said she is a natural. She gained 1.5oz back at her four day old apt, when the ped thought she was going to lose. We are nursing all.day.long, which they said is normal so we are rolling with it!! I planned to formula feed, but love breastfeeding. That being said, I'm not setting any hard and fast goals, just enjoying the moment

Four months here. No goal in mind....I always thought we'd go at least a year, but I'm starting to question that. She's just so active and I'm just starting to feel like my supply is dipping. We'll see!

DD2 is 4.5 months and still nursing I think I have my first blocked duct. Or leftover engorgement from last night. Amazed that I don't know, since I had CONSTANT blocked ducts while nursing my older DD.
aaaaaand she TAKES A BOTTLE. this is unreal, guys. so freeing. my older daughter never took one and nursed for a loooong time, even at night.

@Greentea: that's awesome. Congrats!
At 3 months it's going really well. She is eating about every 2.5 hours during the day. We had a rocky start. I was induced and my milk was not coming in (no one warned me this could happen, just to check for wet/dirties) well we ended up in the PICU for dehydration the week she was born. My milk came in at the hospital. She had a bad latch and was not transferring milk. So we saw an LC 1x a week until 6 weeks. I had to breast feed and pump then bottle feed 8 times a day at first, then dropped to 6 pumps then 3 as she was able to transfer more. Now I pump every morning freeze that milk, and give her a bottle of evening pumped milk with her probiotics.
I was also using shields on both sides due to flat/inverted nipples, I was able to stop at about 8 weeks.
I'm grateful it's going so well after a rough start. I hope to get to 1 year.
ETA I had mastitis around 9-10 weeks. That was rough too. Hopefully that is the last of our issues.

LO is 5 months old today and we are still breastfeeding. I've finally got into a comfortable grove with her.
I'm impressed I've lasted this long considering we had a very very rough start. We kept hitting bumps in the road but everything seems to have smoothed out and her weight gain finally seems consistent.

E turned 1 on Tuesday and we are still nursing morning and night during the week and more on weekends. I am so happy to have made it to my goal! And so glad to be through with the pump. I think we'll keep going for as long as it is still working for us.
honeydew / 7622 posts
@Happygal: Thanks! I wrote the whole story in case someone is searching in desperation (like I did) on the boards for encouragement in the future. It gets better!
ETA: M was so awesome and helpful and supportive especially when we were on the 8x a day schedule. He gave her nearly every bottle while I was pumping. I can bottle feed her now but at the time I would cry because it was so sad/frustrating and I was sleep deprived.

E is almost 6 months old and things are going well. She is a great nurser, is sleeping through the night, and will take a bottle of pumped milk or formula if needed! I feel like this time is way easier because I am so much more relaxed about the whole process. My goal was 6 months for E, so we are almost there- I think I will try to make it a year- but let her decide when she wants to be done. With B he decided at 10 months, so we will see!

My twins are 13 months old and have decided they'd like to nurse forever. Just kidding, of course, but we finally managed to get them to sleep through the night (not consistently both of them, but one or the other most nights) and I was convinced it would kill my supply. Nope, they're just nursing more than ever during the day! Typically they nurse 4 major sessions but sometimes snack a few more times in between. I never thought I'd be nursing two 13 month olds, but here we are. They've been supplemented since day 4 with formula but we are getting them off formula and onto wcm and I think that transition is making them want to nurse more too.

2 months and no issues so far at all. Building my stash as I'm going back to work later this month. I breastfed my daughter for 15 months and would love to have a similar experience with ds, but I'm going to be gone a lot in nov-dec and I'm not sure if we will be able to continue. We'll see!

9.5 months and it's waning... He's been really distracted for the last few months, and we're now at the point where he'll only nurse for a few minutes before either biting me or rolling away. So I mainly nurse to sleep for naps and night wakeups. It's rough! He won't take DH in the middle of the night anymore He needs milk intake though, so we're going with it for now. He's had trouble since day 1, and we only ever had a month or two that it was easy, so I'm not too surprised. He's doing great with solids, so I'm not too worried.
pear / 1632 posts
Wow I never imagined I'd still be bf- ing!!! My LO is 23 months and nurses when he wakes up & when he goes to bed. Occasionally he'll want to snuggle and nurse throughout the day but that's not very often. But it's going great, no complaints here

8.5 months and I can't wait to be done. Around a year is my goal and I'm sure we will get there. But I'm ready to get some freedom back since my LO won't take a bottle.

I need help. LO is 3 months next week and has all of a sudden gone on a complete nursing strike. I started work on Friday, and that is when the strike started. It confuses me because for an entire month before I went back I gave him only bottles of expressed milk between 8am and 5pm, just like at daycare. We use the same bottles and nipples at home as I give to daycare. He sort of latches but then just kind of smacks his lips without actually sucking. has this happened to anyone?!?! I need advice, badly. It has been 5-6 days now and he has only nursed once, but I keep trying. I even tried going back to a shield because we used one the first few weeks but, nope. Is it possible he is weaning? I feel like less than 3 months is too early for that, and am thinking its something else? Everything was going great up until this point.
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ms. pug: What nipple flow are you using? Bottle feeding is easier for baby get milk out of, and if the nipple flow is too fast baby may develop a preference. I'd move to the slowest nipple flow you can find and maybe do a nursing bootcamp over the weekend.
pomegranate / 3393 posts
About to turn 2 and we're still going strong! I'm actually beginning to wonder if he'll ever wean himself... But we're traveling right now and I don't know how I'd calm, soothe, distract, hydrate, etc. him without it. I guess you could say we're both addicted!
In the last few weeks, we've had some issues with thrush so I've experienced latching pain for the first time. OW.

DD is 18 months and nurses usually twice a day, but sometimes up to 4 times. I waver on whether I'm ready to push her toward weaning, and she seems to waver on how much she wants to nurse...so I think we're slowly headed that direction. I was glad yesterday that she still nurses, though, because she got ear tubes and it was an obvious comfort to her when she first woke up and even later in the day after she seemed otherwise recovered.

@avivoca: Thank you! We use the dr. browns slow flow, the only slower one is newborn. Unfortunately we had to stop using those because it takes LO 30-40 min to finish a bottle and daycare just can't keep up with that. I am trying to do more skin to skin and it seems to be helping a bit. this could not have come at a worse time because we are going out of town with baby this weekend. Ugh!
watermelon / 14467 posts
@ms. pug: Hopefully he will be more likely to want to nurse for comfort in a new situation, which may help your cause. Did your daycare tell you you needed to use faster nipples? They should use whatever you ask them to, especially if he's developing a preference that may jeapordize your nursing relationship.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ms. pug: Have you checked out kellymom?
http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/back-to-breast/
How long does it take him to finish a bottle with the nipples he's currently using? Maybe your letdown is too slow and he's getting frustrated since he doesn't have to wait for it with a bottle. Perhaps try expressing before nursing to get things going and then get him to latch? Generally babies don't wean this young, so hopefully you'll be able to convince him to go back to it!

Almost 16 months and going strong every 3 hours accept at night. I love the nursing relationship.

6 months and going great! Love nursing, and pumping isn't so bad, the breaks at work are nice and I have quite a bit stashed. Not sure how long we'll go but I have no plans of quitting in the near future; I don't think we'll go over a year but plans may change once we get there.
@Mrs.Someone: 6 months and my little guy is super distracted too! He'll nurse for a minute, stop and look, nurse, look, repeat! Nursing sessions are down to about 6 min. each side but I have a fast let down so thats probably all he needs. Sucks he is biting you though! Ouch.
