I had an emergency c-section for my first and breastfeeding did not ultimately work out. BUT. My mom had a vaginal birth with her first and failed with breastfeeding-- but then had a c-section with me (8 years later) and she said her milk came right in and she had a super easy time breastfeeding.

So I think the fact that you were able to breastfeed before is probably way more important than the method of birth

my friend had both planned and emergency c-sections and her milk came in just fine. good luck!

@SouthPaw: I had a planned c-section at 39 weeks because my daughter was breech. My milk came in on day 3 with no problems.

I had a c-section and my milk came in on day 3. I breastfed until 13 months with no major issues!

I had an emergency c-section but my milk came in on day 3 with no issues at all and I ended up bf for 12 months very successfully. I wouldn't let your first experience discourage you with your next one - good luck!

I think my milk came in on day 3 (maybe even day 2?) - It was a scheduled c-section for breeched baby. We are still BFing at 4.5 months.

I had a c-section and it did take until day 4 for my milk to come in - but we never supplemented and are still breastfeeding at 2 years.

I had a c section with my first and my milk came in on day 4. I eventually had supply issues, but mostly due to LO sttn very early on and going back to work. My sil also had a c section and never had low supply.

I had an emergency c-section without labour at 38w3d, and she was breastfeeding when I was in the recovery room, not more than 10 minutes after her birth! My milk came in no problem on day 2. I had a crazy amount of worry about it, and we had 0 issues.

I had an emergency c section at 27 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. I never went into labor at all. We had just about everything going against us possible, c-section, I had to EP, an 11 week NICU stay, didn't see my son for hours after birth etc and I actually had an over supply. My milk came in on day 3. I don't think a c section means your milk won't come in.

I had an emergency c-section at 37 weeks (placental abruption) and my milk came in on day 3 and we have had a wonderful time breastfeeding and still going strong at 6 months, despite me going back to work three months ago. We also did lots of skin-to-skin (which is the most delicious thing in the world anyway!) and I'm sure that helped. I was so worried that having a Csection would compromise our chances at successful breastfeeding but turns out that was really unfounded. Hope all goes well!!
