@crash806: you need to do what's best for you... if you force yourself to continue somehow, you will just resent it, and that won't make you a good mommy. If I were you, I would work on pumping as MUCH as possible up to a certain date to build up the freezer stash, then make the transition. That way baby will be getting plenty of breastmilk during the time it's most beneficial for them, and you will be happier because you're sticking with the goal and decision you made.

All that matters is that you make the best decision for you and baby. You want to be the best mom you can be, and the only way that's going to happen is if you're happy!!

i applaud your honesty. sometimes the pressure (bullying even) to breastfeed exclusively for a year is just too much, and i don't think we should be making parenting decisions based on guilt.... we should be making decisions based on what's best for mom and for baby.

i didn't enjoy breastfeeding with charlie, but i must admit that i am enjoying it much more with olive.

you've given yourself a goal of 3 months. who knows? maybe you may change your mind when you reach it. maybe you won't, but you'll still have provided breastmilk during the important first three months, and that is awesome.

breastfeeding is great and everyone knows its benefits, but i don't think it's a one size fits all for every mom.

Honestly come the 3 month mark I wanted to quit breastfeeding. I found I was becoming resentful of my husband being able to sleep when I had to wake up. Then at 3.5 months Mavrick had a nursing strike and never went back.

Breastfeeding is tough and a pain! I continued and am still nursing because LO woudln't take a bottle and she still wants boob. :T

I had a breakdown with my mom on the phone at 6 weeks pp, I hated it so much! I asked her when she started liking it, she said at 3 days. That didn't help at all, I about hung up on her. @Rubies was the one that made me feel better, she said it took her a while to start liking it.

I absolutely hated it until about 8 weeks, and suddenly it got easier (better head control?). I started to kinda like it at 12 weeks, and now at 16 weeks I'm actually enjoying it. Amazing to go from the entire process taking over an hour to being done in 15 minutes or so now

It works for some people, others it doesn't, good job for doing what you can

You're not the only one here. I don't love it either but I keep telling myself that it's cheaper than formula.

I really, really hated it. I wanted to quit at 3 weeks, then at 6 and I told myself 3 months and that.is.it. But after 3 months, it started getting easier (for me at least) maybe it was routine? It was easy to calm DS down with the boob, he got a lot better at it and I felt like I was the only one who could connect with him as if it was "our time". After he started solids, then it got even easier and I was able to go until 13 months
Don't get me wrong, I missed having my body to myself! I say do what feels right, sometimes setting short goals helps to realize if it's right for you and baby. Good job for sticking it out as long as you have. I'm really worried that I'll hate breast feeding even more with my second munchkin!

@Grace: For me, his latch always hurt until he was able to support himself a little bit more. I was so uncomfortable for the first 6 weeks also. I didn't know how to go out in public without pumping before hand because I wasn't use to covering him up or feeding in the car. When I would pump, I'd only get about 2 ounces and felt like that was nothing! It was just completely frustrating until we both got the hang of it.

I'm still taking breast feeding one day at a time. I don't produce enough milk to exclusively breastfeed, and every day I think that this will be the last day before we switch over to 100% formula feeding. I sincerely doubt that we'll make it past 3 months, but who knows... I think 3 months is a great goal!

It is hard, I'm only in my 2nd week but I can say its gotten easier, The first few days I pumped most of the time because it ust seemed easier to tell how much she had eaten and it was faster. But I'm getting the hang of it and will keep going for now. For her night time feedings I give her pumped milk or formula because she is really slow at nursing and usually falls asleep before she is full

I'm in week 5 and I certainly don't always like bf'ing, much less love it. =/

Thankfully we haven't had any painful latch issues but we've had our fair share of other things...... ie. DD seemingly being sensitive to dairy protein and being tongue tied and me having overactive letdown. All of these issues cause DD alot of frustration while eating & tummy issues. I HATE IT! =( Then there's the whole DH not being able to do any feedings b/c I'm still waiting on a smaller flange for my pump & once that gets here I get to start the am I pumping enough issues =/

Right now I'm sticking with it till I get past the 6 week hump. That was the one piece of advice I read & got more than once.... "Don't make any decisions to quit until you get past the 6 week growth spurt hump".

We'll see how it goes... if we can get some of the issues taken care of then we both might enjoy it more.

We didn't start exclusively breastfeeding until 4 weeks due to supply issues. We were bottle feeding and I didn't even bother to offer the boob because getting DS to latch was so frustrating! I pumped around the clock at that time and I always felt like I was chained to my pump and couldn't leave my home for longer than a couple of hours.

We have been exclusively BFing for the past 7 weeks and while I don't love it, it is waaaaay easier than pumping, making bottles, mixing formula, washing everything, etc.

Things were really painful at first for us as well (milk blister, blocked duct, poor latch) but they got easier and easier. Give it some time...with that said, there is absolutely no shame in wanting to end BFing at 3 months. Happy mama = happy baby!
