Let me preface this by saying that while I am very committed to breastfeeding with this baby (my third try, but only my first since I became aware of IGT), I'm not going to beat myself up if I have to supplement (already have a wonderful milk mama pumping a freezer stash for me) and I don't judge anyone else for how they manage to get their baby fed.
But I always cringe a little when I hear breastfeeding advocates touting it's inexpensiveness, which, generally, it totally IS! However, in my case, nature seems to will it that be it by boob or by bottle, feeding my babies is most definitely not free. And it sucks because I'm a big ol' cheapo and breastfeeding merely for the sake of the budget sounds good to me, lol. Except when less than a month's supply of Goat's Rue costs over $30. I just spent $80 on herbal supplements and this is just SOME of the money I've spent on supplements to take during pregnancy to try and make more milk. And that's just counting the ones I'll take before the birth, I haven't even figured out which ones to invest in (AAAALLLLL TEH ONES???) for the postpartum/getting-my-milk-to-come-in period. Because who knows which ones are gonna work or not.
Anyways, just me whining. The milk goat we bought to feed our last baby for $150 was a bargain compared to what I'm forking over now. But hey, if something I'm trying actually works, it'll be totally, totally worth it. And if NOTHING works, well, then I'll have the peace of mind that I tried EVERYTHING to no avail, and that peace of mind will be worth it too.
