Since Friday evening, my nipple have hurt when M latches on. I can't figure out why I'm having the pain (no blebs, she's not obviously biting, it's not a lump). We made it to almost 11 months, and I'm not ready to quit just because it hurts but, I'm starting to dread every nursing session now when I normally love them.
Any thoughts on what this could be?

@aprk: it's not as bad as it was at the beginning but it does feel like her latch is off or she's scraping her teeth along them. But she doesn't bite and I don't feel her scraping her teeth on me.

Sometimes when M nurses her teeth irritate my nipple too.
Might be that? I would try shifting her a little and readjusting to see if it helps.

@mediagirl: Is she teething? I always found that sometimes it would hurt when LO was getting new teeth because it temporarily changed his latch for a bit. Usually corrected itself within a week though.

Could you be pregnant or PMSing? (Sorry, personal I know but there could be a connection.) or... It might just be a stronger suck that comes with being a toddler. Hope it doesn't last!!

Have you pumped at all since the pain started? I think that seeing if it hurts when you pump might give you an idea of if it's something with her latch or teeth vs. being something like thrush.

We were all sick a little while ago and my supply took a huge hit. I found it hurt when he was nursing but I couldn't let down. I hope that's not the case for you!

Every time we had teeth move, his latch changed and we had to relearn it. We made it 2 years of breastfeeding. I also found when I was dropping feedings the few remaining ones hurt more. I think just because they were getting less used to it.

@travelgirl1 @mamamoose: it only hurts when she latches on, and for the first minute or so. I have never had thrush and don't know anything about it. I'll research it a bit, thanks! Also, I'll be pumping today, so we'll see what happens then...
@chopsuey119: if she latches on when she's sitting on my lap, it doesn't hurt as badly as when she latches on when she's laying down. Yesterday she freaked out in the car so I did a nurse her in the carseat move and that didn't hurt - so it definitely is a positional thing.
@Mrs. Yoyo: @brownie: good thought on teething. She doesn't have any "typical" teething signs but then again, she didn't have any typical teething signs when she popped out her first two teeth either!
@sloaneandpuffy: @Mrsjets: oh dear. I am moving towards dropping feedings and I know my supply isn't what it used to be. I wonder if it could be because she's sucking harder to get the milk out....who knows with these babies!!??

It's definitely her latch. Pumping feels amazing compared to breastfeeding right now.

This happened to me right at 11 months too. I was convinced I had thrush, even though we'd never had any problems before. I was just about to call the doctor to figure out what to do when it just went away. I agree with others, it probably has to do with teething and latch.
