LO just cut his first tooth and I swear his latch feels different. Did you notice a difference when breastfeeding and teething?

My kids had a really hard time nursing while/after getting teeth. They just had to completely relearn their latch. I've also heard that sucking can be painful during teething, so LO may also change the latch and sucking mechanics to minimize discomfort.

Hmm, no I haven't noticed that it feels different. She did bite once when she was teething and that hurt so bad!

My La Leche League leader told me the latch probably changed to try and minimize the discomfort. For us once the tooth fully emerged it seemed to feel back to normal. We did have a few biting/ tensing her jaw down incidents but again everything seemed to resolve itself on its own. I wouldn't worry as long as its not too painful or uncomfortable.

I found that every time his teeth moved, we had to relearn his latch.

Yes, every time he gets a new tooth we have to go back to getting him to open wide and latch correctly. We both get lazy about it, so I pay for it with soreness if I don't correct him.

My LO cut her first teeth bang on four months and I definitely noticed a change in her latch. She seemed to somehow rub her bottom gum on my nipple (ouch) while the teeth were cutting and she had trouble maintaining suction which resulted in her "clamping down" and making the clicking noise. I should however mention that LO's latch isn't that flash to begin with!
Now that the teeth have been through for almost three weeks I still have some discomfort every now and then but it's pretty manageable.

When Lo's bottom teeth first started cutting through, his latch changed so that I could feel them rubbing against my nipple when nursing. That only lasted about a week. When his top teeth started cutting through, I didn't feel any difference in latch.

LO has 6 teeth and two more are coming in soon. Normally her latch is all screwed up until the tooth has fully broken through the gums. It hurts for a little and sometimes she bites but I'm used to it now.

LO just got his first tooth this week and, so far I haven't noticed a difference. His second one should be through any day now so we'll see if that changes things!

Sometimes when her teeth are breaking through she's more sensitive about her mouth in general. But it's always gone back to normal once the tooth is all the way through. Good luck!
