were you itchy after your c-section? I've been told theres a combination of the spinal block and pain med that causes the extreme itching in some women. I wanted to know how many of you experienced it? I was horribly itchy especially on my back and legs. This time I am telling them about it in advance and I believe they can cue up some medication in my IV to prevent or atleast reduce it. Did you have this experience

Yes. It was awful! I was so glad when I was able to take the Benedryl pill--it was so much more effective than the IV Benedryl (even though that seems counterintuitive!).

I was itchy with my second but not my first or third.
They gave me oral benadryl and that took care of it. Felt like a junkie before it kicked in though. -
with my first I was, I had an epidural and an emergency c section after a 36 hour failed induction. I wanted to itch my face off
with my second RCS I had a spinal and zero itching

Not the first time but the second time was awful! They told me it was the morphine. It was itching all over my back and face, especially my nose. I was very out of it but DH tells me they gave me something for it as soon as I told them.

@Mrs. Pickles: I also had a failed induction, i wonder if that plays a role in it at all. I am really hoping not to be itchy this time!

Yes! Not taking the Benadryl next time though. It is supposed to be safe for breastfeeding but more than LC told me later that it is not great for new moms. My milk came in late and I never had a full supply.

@Mrsbells: Yes, the hospital offered the pill after I was allowed to start eating food. As an aside, I did not have any issues with my milk supply. It came in on day 2.

@pwnstar: ok thanks. yeah I was given something in my IV i think it was benadryl. Milk came in on day 3 i think and i didnt have supply issues.

No, I didn't experience itchiness. I only had an epidural though.

I had no itching post op, but now two weeks out, my scar itches like a mofo.

No itching at all, sounds unpleasant. Unplanned, with spinal.

Only remember my nose being itchy. And it was soooooo itchy and annoying. It was so weird!

@Mrsbells: i experienced it after my c section and after every time i've gotten any kind of stitches for any reason. it's part of the healing process.
as for opioid itching--i get it any time i take any kind of opioid medicine, so i did get that from the anesthesia (another reason i went med free for baby 2, i just respond poorly to many meds). For this itching, it is worst on my jawline. -
First - unplanned csection and zero itching
Second - planned csection and so much itching it was so awful. Really really awful. Then they gave me some Benadryl and I could barely keep my eyes open - and that was awful too.
I'm having another csection with my third and I'm going to ask for something to help that doesn't make me pass out

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: yeah I'm not sure if you get the itching from just an epi or if its the combination of the pain medication and spinal block used for a c-section.
@OldpuebloJenn: Oh yes the scar itching is a whole other animal. Not sure what you use but it helps to massage it with some type or cream/oil/butter. I used raw shea butter at one point which soothed it slightly.
@pastemoo: @Mrs. Champagne: Yeah i've seen online that other people mention itching on their faces too@Mrs. Goose: yes very unpleasant!!!
