Yes, sometimes that is the only way to get through it. My husband has Cystic Fibrosis and CBAVD (congenital bilateral absense of the vas deferens). We knew we would have to go through fertility treatments to conceive. We call our son our 20 thousand dollar baby. People joke about taking him away and I say that he is way to expensive for them.

We also definitely make jokes about him and shooting blanks. But I am happy I don't have to bother with birth control.

Yep we joked, along with lots of tears. Our doctor put little hearts on the calendar for the dates we were supposed to Have intercourse. My husband used to laugh all the time about our "prescription". He would laugh and say he at least knew I couldn't refuse, he had a prescription.

I applaud anyone who can joke about this and I respect that you have been able to make it less of a sad situation in your own special way:)
We didn't have any issues luckily but my cousin and his wife did. They ended up going through 3 MCs and 2 rounds of IVF before having a sticky baby. They did NOT joke about it. They are fun and easy-going but for them even the mention of it in passing made their eyes well up with tears. For them, I'd bet it was the hardest 5years of their lives. They are trying for #2 right now but they are skipping straight to IVF----They are better now but still not happy about the fact that they have to do IVF. I think the sadness of not being able to do it naturally without intervention still breaks their heart. No joking with them about it!

I joke about it, but I'm the ONLY one who does. Its my coping mechanism. That being said, they're often dark jokes, and more people cough uncomfortably than actually laugh.
Oh well. I have to deal somehow, right?
