I have heard that we don't get any of the "freebies" that Americans get (obviously bc the care is free!!) like diapers and stuff. Just wondering what you brought with you to the hospital that someone clueless like me would assume was provided?

Really? I got diapers (and took the extra home), you wipe with wet clothes, and if you were formula feeding they provided that as well. They also took him for a bath. For you they give you a pack of pads, a squirt bottle, and they give you drugs for you to self medicate as necessary (ibuprofen, stool softeners and something else, I think tylenol?)

@bebefly: Really? That's encouraging!!! In the little booklet I had from thyme it listed all of that stuff to bring with you!
Anyone else?

My twins were in the nicu and I was in the hospital for a week due to pre e/HELLP so I'm not sure if that made a difference, but the hospital supplied diapers, formula (I wasn't producing enough milk), pads, squirt bottle, tylenol, stool softeners and even had sandwiches & fruit (separate from regular hospital food) for the new moms.
I didn't get to take any supplies home, but I think it just depends on the nurse that is working as another girl who had twins around the same time got a bag full of goodies to bring home.

I gave birth in a hospital in Richmond Hill, Ontario and I didn't get anything to take home. They provided get a handful of giant pads for use while I was there and the mesh underwear. When I ran out if pads, I had I ask for more. I had a c-section so I didn't get the squirt bottle but I think my friends who had vaginal births got a squirt bottle.
Painkillers and formula were provided upon request but only one dose. I didn't get any drugs to take home I had to get my husband buy extra strength Tylenol and Advil when we got home.

I just got back home. In my bag was poise pads for me, monster pads for me, mesh underpants for me, puppy pads for the bed under me, diapers for baby (NB size only though, we had to run out to get some from the gift shop because they were too small), dry wipes for baby, OTC meds for me, squirt bottle for me.
I knew what we'd be getting, but thought that it was a take home bag of stuff to start us off. What I didn't realize was that you were suppose to use that stuff while at the hospital, which is why I ran into the problem with the diapers.

We didn't have to bring anything other than clothes for everyone, everything is provided. My SIL delivered at the same hospital and they brought home a ton of stuff (BIL raided the supply closet). We took home a tube of vasseline and a hair comb, that's about it. Oh, and some really big pads, I took some of those home from my room too.

I think everyone we got was covered above, squirt bottle, big pads, stool softeners, drugs! I may have snagged a few hospital blankets for LO, I don't know why I loved them so much, lol. LO got two knit hats too!
Needed to bring diapers for her, onesies (we didn't do going home outfit, just onesie and tights and socks!), car seat of course.
For me, I brought whatever clothes I wanted, and pads.....but I went out for bigger ones when I got home, the hospital ones were amazing the first two days!
I packed according to hospital list, but didn't really use anything else!

I was in BC, we got diapers, meds, a peri bottle, disposable panties and giant pads, baby shampoo and a little hand knitted hat.
I brought clothes and a book. Oh and food, the food was brutal and you can only eat at meal times (so if you're pushing out a baby at breakfast, you get nothing until lunch). Also they didn't feed Mr SH at all.
And my camera, naturally.
