Anyone have good care package ideas for a 12 year-old boy who is mainly into sports? The son of our good friends was injured in a car accident and will be out of commission for a while.
Thanks in advance

@MrsH: my nephew is 11 and likes getting the regular Sports Illustrated, maybe that could be an option. Snacks! iTunes gift card...

Maybe socks? I coach middle school girls, and they all love these ridiculous mid calf socks - and often steal them from "boys that are their friends but not boyfriends" and brothers.

I should ask DH because he's a child psychologist and also basically a 12 yo boy himself
I would think that an Apple app store gift card (for itunes, or games) and/or a game to a portable video game system if he has one (like a Nintendo DS or whatever else exists) would be great. Especially if he's stuck in bed for a long time. Also snacks/candy.

@MtnBiker: yes! My nephew calls them Elites but I'm not sure if that's a brand or what. I'm not cool so I don't know.

I teach middle school and I would say iTunes gift cards, maybe play station or Xbox games if you know what system he has, earbuds or headphones. And yes snacks -horrible stuff they like include hot Cheetos, sour punch, etc.
They all seem to still like younger elementary level books like diary of a whimpy kid even though they're middle schoolers.

Find out what gaming system he has and give a GC for that.
If he is a reader - The Lightening Thief series, Eragon series, The Chronicles of Narnia, A Wrinkle in Time, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe.
Snacks and candy - all the junior high kids I know are obsessed with flaming cheetos.

@MrsH: This sounds so weird, but as a middle school teacher, there is one prize I give out for good behavior that students go wild for. It's duct tape. They like the kind with the patterns on them and they make wallets, bracelets, and decorate their folders with them. I think they have sports teams' logos on some kinds of duct tape. I know it sounds strange (DH didn't believe me when I told him initially), but it's all the rage at our school.

@BAO: I think that is one of the brands. It cracks me up, those are the type of socks my dad wore! I guess I'm part of the ankle sock generation...

@lamariniere: The ones I know still play/create with Lego - the avengers sets are big with my kids right now.
iTunes cards are good, movies (again with Avengers or something similar), games (even board/card games - but really I think that's the mom in me not the 12 year old lol). I second the Percy Jackson book recommendation, it's a great series for that age.
It's a hard age to buy for, hope you find something good!

My nephew just turned 13 and he's into video games. I think gift certificate to best buy and snacks would be great.

@Bao: @MenagerieMama: @iluvboba637: @Ginger333: iTunes GC is genius! How did I not think of that?!?
