I am 13 months pp and though I had some normal cycles in there for the last 4 months they have been a lot longer lately going from 29 days to now a range of 33-38 days. I am still nursing and have been sleeping like total crap lately because my son is teething and experiencing 2-5 wake ups a night an nursing like crazy to get back to sleep. Anyone else in my same boat TTC and concieve? We are starting to try in January but I'd like to figure out my cycles sooner if possible. I tried to chart but I co-sleep and my son makes it very difficult to wake up and not move or talk before temping.

I can't speak to most of your questions since I don't have a lo and have only been doing this for a month. However I have played around a bit with how much my temperature is changed by various factors and I would encourage you to do the same. I set my alarm to vibrate at the same time daily and check it then. I usually only have a variation of a tenth of a degree if I am moving a bit or if I wake up multiple times. I know it varies by person so it might not work for you but if you are interested it might be worth a try.

Postpartum charting can be confusing, since cycles won't always be the same way they were before pregnancy and they can take a while to hit a new normal. Yours might be longer cycles (the 28-day cycle is a kind of average, some women's cycles are longer). Are you charting cervical fluid and having signs of ovulation that way?

My cycle has been crazy since having B. But short not long cycles. I'm hoping with time it will regulate. Sorry I'm not much help.

@LittleFox: I used to chart religiously and I was a 29 day cycle before I had my son. I started menstruating again at 2 months PP and my cycles were pretty close to normal for me but the last 4 months have been longer. I usually get patches of EWCM around CD 20 and sometimes even later. I used to ovulate and get it on CD 15. Not sure if its due I hormonal changes, stress or annovulatory cycles. I did some OPKs one month and got a positive around

^It could be any of those things. Stress and hormone changes can push back ovulation, and hormonal changes can also mess with things. Remember not to base too much of what you expect in any given month on the previous months- each month is it's own fresh start. If you're getting signs of ovulation, like positive OPK's, temp rises (if you start temping), a good cervical fluid buildup, etc., there's probably still a good chance you're ovulating. A long cycle doesn't always mean an annovulatory cycle. I know one person who got pregnant on a fluke 60+day cycle, where she ovulated toward the end of it.
Did you ever take a class in charting/NFP? If so, it's a good time to get in touch with your instructor. They should be able to review your charts and give advice once you pick up charting again.

@LittleFox: thanks so much! I think once my period comes this cycle I will start trying to chart again. I'm on CD 28 so it seems like it wouldn't show me much anyway. I read that you can get more than one LH peak in any given cycle so OPKs are a little iffy to me sometimes. I'm just wanting to go in with some sense of what my body is doing.
