DS is super particular when it comes to his sleep. He's never slept anywhere but his crib since he was 3 months old. Now at 17 months we need to switch him to a new bedroom in preparation for our new baby who will sleep in the nursery. Does anyone have any tips? He literally will not sleep anywhere but his bedroom... I don't know if I should try the switch for a nap (when he's more likely to fight it but I'm not trying to sleep) or for nighttime (he's more tired but we need to be able to sleep too). Any suggestions?

Can you do something to make his 'new room' a really special place? Find a way to make him want to be in there prior to moving his bed in. Then, when you move his bed in there, approach it with the same 'this place is so special, now you get to sleep in here'.
Also, are you moving over his decor and furniture? If so, that should help. Right? I could be totally wrong as I have no experience with toddlers haha! Good luck

I am moving all of his furniture and most of his decor but his new room is much bigger and a very different shape and color which will make it all look very different...

@Beyond2: why not just keep him in his nursery and put new baby in the other room?
We debated about the same and LO isn't particular like yours and we opted to keep her put.

@locavore_mama: I considered that, but the nursery is much closer to our bedroom and will be better for middle of the night feeds (I breastfed DS1 and plan to with LO2 also). We also plan to have more kids too and the big room will be the "big kid room" because it can fit multiple beds while the nursery is tiny and I think it would be best to keep any future new babies separate from the room share situation until they can sleep through the night at least.

@Beyond2: Hmm...in that case, I'm no help. I would think as long as he's in his bed, he'd be comfortable but we both know that children aren't exactly rationale thinkers

I would just move him and hope the transition goes smoothly. He will eventually get used to it.
